Cecchini and Reynolds Recalled, Reyes on DL, McGowan Optioned

The New York Mets announced that infielders Gavin Cecchini and Matt Reynolds have both been promoted from Triple-A and added to the 25-man roster.

Infielder Jose Reyes has been placed on the 10-disabled list with an oblique strain. He was a late scratch from the lineup on Wednesday.

The Mets also optioned right-handed pitcher Kevin McGowan to Triple-A Las Vegas. McGowan didn’t make an appearance in his stint with the major league team.

Cecchini has played well in an extremely small major league sample size with a .300/.330/.500 slash line in nine games. The overall numbers this year in Vegas are alarming (.267/.329/.380), but he’s been better lately hitting .297/.356/.430 since July 1.

Gavin has played 80 games at second base this year in the minors and 30 at shortstop.

Reynolds certainly does have versatility, he’s played left field, center field, shortstop, second and third base this year in the minors. However, he’s struggled at the major league level with a .217/.265/.377 slash line and has struck out 35.6% of the time.

Reynolds is in the lineup tonight playing third base with Travis d’Arnaud back at catcher.
