Tebow Hits Second FSL Homer, Flexen Goes Seven for Binghamton

The St. Lucie Mets beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 8-4 on Wednesday to improve to 36-45 on the season. St. Lucie scored four runs in the fourth inning inlcuding back-to-back home runs by Nick Sergakis and Tim Tebow.

It was the second home run for Tebow in nine Florida State League games and seventh overall this season. Tebow was 1 for 4 on the day and is now slashing .360/.500/.660 with six walks and five strikeouts for St. Lucie.

First base prospect Peter Alonso went 2 for 4 with a double and run scored. Outfielder John Mora and third baseman Sergakis each had two hits in the game. Right-hander Tyler Bashlor struck out the side in the ninth. Box Score

The Las Vegas 51s offense scored four runs in the first inning in their 7-3 last night. Amed Rosario went 2 for 4 with two runs scored while Dominic Smith was 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored and his 51st RBI of the season. Smith (110) and Rosario (109) are atop the Pacific Coast League leaderboard in hits.

Rosario now has an eight-game hitting streak and hasn’t struck out in his last four. Outfielder Travis Taijeron was 4 for 4 with an inside-the-park home run off catcher/pitcher Christian Bethancourt.

51s’ starter Mitch Atkins picked up the win allowing three runs in six innings and had two hits of his own. Box Score

Right-handed starter Chris Flexen is putting his name back on the prospect map with good stuff in the Eastern League for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Last night he went seven innings allowing two earned runs on six hits, three walks and struck out five. The three walks are in his first in 33.2 innings with the Ponies.

Flexen improved to 4-1 in the Ponies 4-3 win. He has a 1.87 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 34 walks in 33.2 Double-A innings this year. Flexen was added to the 40-man this offseason and I think there’s an outside chance we see him in the big leagues this September.

Luis Guillorme was one base four times for Bingo with a single and three walks. Flexen had two hits, scored a run and his first career double. Everyone in the Rumble Ponies lineup had a hit besides outfielder Champ Stuart. Box Score

The Columbia Fireflies dropped two games on Wednesday as they fall to 45-36 on the season. The best news of the day for them was the return of outfielder Desmond Lindsay off the DL. He went 1 for 4 as the designated hitter in game two. Game One Box Score, Game Two Box Score

Brooklyn Cyclones busted out with 10 runs on 17 hits in their 10-1 victory last night. Matt Winaker, 2017 5th rounder, had three hits and two runs scored and Quinn Brodey, 2017 3rd rounder, had three hits including his first pro double.

Outfielder Jose Miguel Medina reached base twice, knocked in three and stole a base. Fellow outfielder Ricardo Cespedes went 2 for 5 with three RBI. Every Cyclone had a hit and the team went 8 for 19 with runners in scoring position. Box Score
