Morning Briefing: The Calm Before The Storm

The Mets will look to win its three-game series against the Seattle Mariners today and will send Seth Lugo to the mound to face James Paxton. The game starts at 4:10 p.m. and will be aired on WPIX.

Yesterday, the Mets lost to the Mariners 3-2. Jacob deGrom pitched for the Mets and struggled early, but calmed down to give the Mets six innings, while allowing only two earned runs (three total), and striking out 10. The offense didn’t help him as they only managed to record eight hits the two runs.

DeGrom’s eight-game winning streak was snapped yesterday.

However, deGrom joined elite company in Mets history with his eight 10+ strikeout performance of the season. This put him with David Cone as the only Mets to ever do that in a single season.

Newly acquired reliever, AJ Ramos, did not make it to the Mets in time to be activated yesterday. However, he is expected to be available for today’s game.
