It looks like Jay Bruce is gearing up for another hot streak.
The powerful right fielder went 3-for-5 last night with two doubles and two RBI as the Mets’ offense exploded for seven runs against Tyler Glasnow and the Pirates.
Bruce’s two run double in the fifth inning was key as it extended the Mets’ lead to 5-1. He also ripped a doubled in the first inning, as well as singled and scored the team’s first run in the fourth.
Bruce contributed on defense as well, making a nice diving catch with two outs in the sixth to help preserve Matt Harvey‘s solid effort on the mound.
In the month of April, Bruce batted .292 with a .952 OPS and crushed seven home runs. He was starting to cool off over the past few weeks, but he is now batting .333 over his past six games with two home runs and seven RBI.
While Bruce was never able to get it going last season with the Mets until the very end, he has been one of the team’s top performers this year. Bruce’s 34 RBI lead the team, and his 12 home runs are second behind Michael Conforto.
His slash line has climbed back up to. 258/.333/.528 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 201 plate appearances this season.
