MMO Game Thread: Tigers vs Mets, 1:10 PM

jacob degrom

Jacob deGrom takes the mound today for his second start of Grapefruit League action as the New York Mets host the Detroit Tigers at 1:10 PM at First Data Field. Right-hander Anibal Sanchez is expected to start for the Tigers.

In his first spring start, deGrom threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts and hit 97 MPH with his fastball. Tough to imagine a better start for the right-hander coming off surgery that ended his 2016 in September.

As the Mets go through their final games of tuneups for the official start of the 2017 season,

Yesterday, Mets GM Sandy Alderson spoke to Mark Feinsand of about the role David Wright serves on the team whether he is on the field or not. “Well, he’s meant a tremendous amount to the team, to the organization, and actually, to me personally.”

“He’s the captain of the team. He’s one of the most accomplished players in Mets history. He’s an outstanding individual. We talk about the stability that fans enjoy and appreciate — he personifies that. He has been the New York Mets for a long period of time. In my case, we talked about selling an idea, and his endorsement of that idea when he signed the contract — not just by signing the contract, but by verbally expressing confidence in the direction that we were headed — I think had a tremendous impact on our fan base.”

Did you know: On this date in 1963, “Meet The Mets,” the official Mets theme song, is introduced to the public by songwriters Ruth Roberts and Bill Katz.
