The Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon at Tradition Field by a score of 7-2.

Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets today and tossed three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Josh Smoker relieved Syndergaard in the fourth and didn’t fare very well, allowing three hits, including a two-run shot to Matt Adams in one inning of work.

Jeurys Familia, Robert Gsellman, Buddy Carlyle and Hansel Robles kept the Cardinals off the board the remainder of the game, as they combined to pitch five scoreless innings.

After St. Louis got on the board first with a 2-0 lead, Ruben Tejada hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie up the game.

The Mets tacked on another run in the seventh to break the tie, then Travis Taijeron busted the game open with a three-run bomb to center.

In the eighth inning, Alejandro De Aza lead off the frame with a stand up triple, and was driven in by a sacrifice fly from Ty Kelly.
