The Mets have signed RHP Stolmy Pimentel to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training, the team announced.
Pimentel, 26, made eight relief appearances for the Rangers in 2015, posting a 3.97 ERA, and 1.235 WHIP in 11.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
He made 17 appearances including 12 starts for Triple-A Round Rock this year and posted a 5.44 ERA and 1.660 WHIP in 71.2 innings.
Pimentel has a 4.39 ERA and 1.350 WHIP in three cups of coffee in the majors spanning 53.1 innings pitched for the Pirates and Rangers.
He is currently pitching for the Estrellas de Oriente in the Dominican Winter League and a 3.18 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 5.2 innings. He left his last outing with a possible injury and was headed to an MRI on his throwing arm, the Estrellas reported he will not pitch again this winter.
Just a minor league depth signing…. Nothing to get excited or twisted about…
