Mets Among Many Teams Interested In Brian Fuentes

According to Jon Heyman of, the Mets and Phillies are among 11 teams that are interested in free agent closer Brian Fuentes.

Rotoworld adds that the veteran left-hander is seeking a contract similar to Scott Downs’, with’s Buster Olney reporting last week that he was looking for a three-year deal worth around $15 million.

The fact that the Mets are mentioned seems more grounded in fantasy than in reality.

Fuentes, 35, is not worth $5 million per season and giving him three years would be sheer lunacy.

Considering the Mets didn’t find Pedro Feliciano and his demands very appetizing, I would imagine that what Fuentes wants would make them very queasy.

I’m not sure I’d even entertain the idea of Fuentes even if he lowered his demands to $4 million annually.
