O’s Deal Johnson A’s The Oakland A’s have acquired righthander Jim Johnson from the Orioles for second baseman Jemile Weeks, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The Orioles let teams know they were willing to listen to trade offers for Johnson who is one the top closers in the league. Johnson is expected to earn as much as $10.8 million in arbitration. That’s more than the entire Mets bullpen combined. Billy Beane gets himself a closer and starter […]
The Kansas City Royals have signed free-agent starting pitcher Jason Vargas to a four-year, $32 million deal. Vargas, 30, will replace the departed Ervin Santana in the Royals rotation. General manager Dayton Moore initially pushed hard to sign righthander Tim Hudson before he ended up signing with San Francisco. The lefthanded Vargas was 9-8 with a 4.02 ERA in 24 starts last season for the Angels, but missed almost two months of the season following surgery […]
Done deal… The San Diego Padres have agreed on a one-year, $8 million deal with free agent starter Josh Johnson. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN first reported the news: The deal includes an additional $1.25 million in performance bonuses if Johnson makes 26 starts, the source said. Johnson was in San Diego for a physical exam Tuesday and the contract is expected to be announced by the club Wednesday. Johnson did not receive a qualifying offer from Toronto, […]
The Marlins’ top priority this offseason is to sell stability to their fans according to Joe Frisaro. It’s the only way they can convince Giancarlo Stanton to sign an extension to stay in Miami. Since Stanton was promoted to the big leagues in 2010, he has had five different hitting coaches and five different managers, writes Frisaro. New president of baseball operations Michael Hill and general manager Dan Jennings are in the hunt for position players to supplement a core of […]
Less than a month after re-signing Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Giants wasted no time on signing Tim Hudson to a two year, $23 million dollar contract. According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, the deal could include a full no-trade clause for the 37-year old Hudson. The veteran right-hander is coming back from a fractured ankle he suffered against the Mets last July. He was having a solid season at the time posting […]
The 2007 New York Met collapse did more than break the hearts of the Met faithful. The September disintegration that fall, set in motion a string of subsequent baseball finishes that have left the Mets shattered at each season’s end ever since. No one would have predicted a September slide of epic proportions back in 2007. In fact, when Oliver Perez bested Tim Hudson for his fourteenth win of the season in front of a Shea Stadium crowd of […]
In less than two months Eric Young Jr. has made himself a favorite among Mets fans. He plays with a dynamic of speed and hustle that this team has sorely missed and it has been fun to watch. Coming into the season, the outfield was the biggest question mark defensively and no one knew who was going to bat lead off, Young has become the answer to both of those problems. The Mets traded pitcher […]
Eric Young Jr, who was scratched with a sore knee before the start of yesterday’s first game, is expected to return to the lineup today against the Nationals. Young experienced soreness a day after his collision at first base with Tim Hudson on Thursday. Young says he is not in any pain and proclaimed himself ready to play today. “It felt a lot better today, Young said. “It’s just a matter of if I needed […]
