Many Mets fans find themselves in an uproar this evening following an opinion piece by ESPN’s Adam Rubin, that criticized much more than the 2013 roster’s potential. The highlight of the article, which you can find HERE, is likely a quote stating: “Manager Terry Collins has done an admirable job trying to put lipstick on a pig with his job fate hanging the balance, but there are alarming early signs this is going to be […]
During an interview on WFAN with Mike Francesa, Terry Collins said that Jon Niese would get the Opening Day start if Johan Santana is not ready. The manager still believes Santana has a chance to make the start, “It’s not doubtful,” Collins said. “If he’s not ready for Game 1, I think he’ll be ready for Game 4.” Niese, 26, took a big step forward. He became reliable, proved to be durable, and most of […]
MURPHY UPDATE: Daniel Murphy, who has been down with a strained intercostal muscle in his right side and was reportedly a week to ten days away from playing in a game, is making progress. Adam Rubin of ESPN reports that Murphy began hitting off a tee today for the first time since suffering the injury and he could be ready to appear in a Grapefruit League game in roughly a week. WHEELER UPDATE: When it comes to pitching injuries, always […]
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, is reporting that right-hander Shaun Marcum has been temporarily removed from the Mets Grapefruit League rotation, but is not injured. Manager Terry Collins said Marcum wants to concentrate on a long-toss program designed to strengthen his shoulder, which gave him trouble last spring. He will return to game action in early to mid-March. The Mets aren’t calling it a setback, but it sort of sounds like one to me especially when you consider […]
THE GAME: Ruben Tejada hit a two-run homer and Collin Cowgill drove in a run with double as the Mets won their exhibition opener, 5-3, over Washington. One game does not a spring training make, but if you’re going to play the games it is better to win them. WHEELER IMPRESSIVE: Zack Wheeler wowed them in his first appearance of the spring, giving up a walk and hit in two scoreless innings. Wheeler threw mostly fastballs and sliders, the […]
With the announcement this morning that the Mets have agreed to sign Shaun Marcum, the offseason drought is officially over. The Mets were the only team in the game to have not signed a Major League free agent before the Marcum deal. Of course, the Mets are going through a rebuilding phase, but the team didn’t even sign a bench player or relief pitcher to a pro deal. What this means is that the team […]
