Well, this is sort of becoming the norm now, isn’t it? You can almost predict exactly what’s going to happen. Matt Harvey goes out, pitches his heart out, and somehow gets cheated out of a win. As much as we all hoped for that streak to break today, the Mets offense was not up to the task of handling Adam Wainwright. The Mets were shut down through the first seven innings by Wainwright, only posing […]
Dillon Gee was dominant for the Mets as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-1 tonight at Citi Field to even the series at one game apiece. It was the third consecutive solid outing for Gee who is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in that span. The righthander held one of the most potent offenses in the game to just one earned run tonight in 6.2 innings pitched, scattering just six […]
It’s time. Losing seven out of our last eight to the Miami Marlins is proof enough. Measured changes at Citi Field are long overdue. Binghamton’s southpaw reliever Jack Leathersich has been nothing short of dominant this season — and his ascent to the show should be at the top of a long list of personnel changes. As a B-Met fan who attends Binghamton games regularly, I would hate to see Leathersich go. He is a […]
The Miami Marlins scratched out a run in the top of the 20th inning to break the 1-1 deadlock and beat the Mets 2-1 at Citi Field tonight. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and was solid for seven innings until he was removed with what the team initially diagnosed as “lower back tightness.” The righthander gets his fourth straight no-decision after allowing just one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. The […]
Unless you’ve been spending the first few months of the 2013 season under a rock, you know that the Mets are off to a less-than-spectacular start. Through 56 games, the Mets have a disappointing 23-33 record. The only teams in baseball that are more than ten games under .500 are the Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros and Miami Marlins. One of the reasons for the Mets’ poor start is their inability to hit. New York ranks […]
Couldn’t help reading today that Bobby Parnell deserves to be an All Star on MetsBlog. Sorry, but I beg to differ. Parnell ranks 13th out of 15 National League closers with 9 saves. The leader, Pittsburgh’s Jason Grilli, has 22 saves, while Edward Mujica of the Cardinals and Craig Kimbrel have 17 saves each. All three have ERAs of 1.93 or lower. Do those three deserve to be All Stars? You bet they do. Parnell isn’t […]
If you didn’t know any better, you would think the Mets only had two relievers in their bullpen; closer Bobby Parnell and lefthander Scott Rice. On those rare occasions when the Mets need to protect a late lead, Parnell and Rice have been Terry Collins‘ first line of defense and his go-to guys. For Rice, it has led to an NL-leading 32 appearances. That puts the late-blooming rookie on pace for 96 appearances this season. […]
Juan Pierre was on base four times and scored three runs for the Marlins today. Not even Matt Harvey Day could stop the Miami Marlins from beating the Mets this afternoon by the score of 11-6 to complete an embarrassing three game sweep of the Amazins. Looking for his sixth win of the season, Harvey struggled today against the Marlins and allowed four runs – a career high – for the second time in three […]
Updated by Joe D. at 10:45 PM Jack Leathersich is freaking unbelievable. He just struck out the side tonight in the ninth inning for Binghamton. His last nine outs have all been Ks and he now has 27 strikeouts in his last 12 innings pitched. For the season, Leathersich has 48 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. Back in January I compared him to Billy Wagner in an interview I did with him. He laughed and […]
