I am one of the regulars on a weekly Kult of Mets Personalities podcast, and if you listened to it, you would know that I am the resident Mike “Big Pelf” Pelfrey homer. I root for him probably harder than any other Met. I don’t know why either, but I feel a personal connection to Big Pelf. It’s mostly because I saw him pitch in his major league debut in 2006. I always felt he […]
At Aerys Sports, there is a fine conglomerate of baseball bloggers, headed up and written by women. Their resident Mets blogger, Kelly Lake who is the author of “The Curious Case of Sidd Finch,” raised an interesting question about the Mets a few days ago. She asked: When will the players be held accountable? It’s an incredibly fair question, and one I wanted to address myself. Lake’s raised a point about the blame game. Media […]
Let’s all be honest, we knew what this team was before the season even started. Not losing all faith yet, but the Mets may in fact be sellers at the deadline. Recently I was asked if the Mets would be sellers or buyers at the deadline, to which I responded buyers. However that was the optimistic side of me talking. Or maybe it was Sandy repeatedly saying comments like “We’re playing for 2011″. Either way […]
Let’s be careful not to go overboard in praising the Sandy Alderson regime for the sacking of Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez. Credit to Alderson goes in finally convincing the Wilpons eating $18 million in salary was the prudent option. The actual decision itself was a no-brainer in that neither would be a viable contributor to the team, both were an emotional and psychological drains in the clubhouse, and to adequately change the culture of […]
So now that the Mets have parted ways with both Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez, there are a variety of opinions on how this soap opera has panned out. Should they have stayed on because they were owed a king’s ransom, the Mets would essentially be paying them either way, right? Or does this truly show that the new world order on the Mets front office team has an agenda, one that says, if you […]
THIS IS ABOUT SAVING THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY! Well maybe not but this has to be right up there with landing a man on the moon before the damn Commies or finally putting a Wal-Mart in Staten Island or bringing the iPhone over to a carrier that doesn’t drop calls like Charlie Sheen drops Goddesses. Winning. Yeah, umm no. When the Sandy Alderson pulled the trigger and finally put to rest the piñata that Luis […]
Updated 3/20 1:00 PM Oliver Perez left the Mets complex this morning and was not told what was next for him, according to Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal. Costa also says that we should expect a decision by Monday. Pitching coach Dan Warthen said this morning that no decision has been reached yet on Perez, but there will be a meeting of the minds with Terry Colllins and Sandy Alderson on Monday. – JD Original Post 3/19 […]
On this date in 1934, the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Casey Stengel to a two-year deal to be their manager. Today, 77 years later, Terry Collins will look to the example set by Stengel in running a baseball team. Though they Mets were downright terrible during Stengel’s tenure, the fire and energy he brought as the first Mets manager rang true with the players. Early reports have described Collins as “loud,” which is a great sign […]
“The more things change, the more they stay the same” seems to apply for the Mets after the last few days. On Friday I posted here that Terry Collins told reporters that it would be up to Carlos Beltran on whether or not he would move from center-field and start playing right-field. Yesterday Brandon Butler posted that Oliver Perez has already been guaranteed a roster spot by Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins. I was hoping with a […]
