Mets Defeat Nats 7-1, Harvey Dominates, Duda and Davis Hit A Pair Of Homers Each

matt harvey

Live Blog From Citi Field Pressbox Top First: It starts to rain right after the anthem and moment of silence for Boston and Texas. The weather isn’t Minnesota-Denver bad, but I thought there would be more people here for Harvey-Strasburg. Harvey strikes out his first hitter and gets out of the inning with a runner on second. Bottom First: Jordany Valdespin leading off again. Glad to see Terry Collins running with this. Valdespin reaches on [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: Rocked By The Rockies Edition

coors snowman

As the great Bob Murphy once uttered, “The damned thing is over.” That describes the sentiment as the Mets wrapped up this seemingly never-ending road trip with a four day, three game debacle at the frozen tundra known as Coors Field. I give you a very rare 6 Down and 0 Up edition of this series’ 3 & 3. THREE DOWN Gee Whiz: Dillon Gee was ineffective in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader going [...]

Feliciano Tosses Scoreless Inning In First Game Back For St. Lucie

feliciano

Updated by HoJo at 10:45 PM Pedro Feliciano tossed a scoreless seventh inning for Advanced-A St. Lucie tonight in his first game action in nearly a month and the results were encouraging. The Mets’ southpaw allowed one hit, one walk, and had one strikeout. But his velocity was in the 84-86 mph range, according to Adam Rubin, which was up from 82-83 in spring training last month. Original Post 7:00 PM Other Mets News Tonight’s game [...]

A More Realistic Poll On Stanton To Mets

giancarlo stanton

After discussing my earlier post with me on Twitter, Mike Newman of FanGraphs conducted his own polling to one of the largest trafficked sports sites on the web. There are the results. My conclusion? Too many Mets fans are prospect drunk… I would speculate that a similar poll on MMO would be somewhere in the middle with the majority of them pulling the trigger on such a deal without hesitation. Original Post 9:00 AM I [...]

Baffling But Awesome Start

Maybe I should move more often.  My family moved from Tennessee to Wisconsin two weeks ago, and about that time the Mets were slipping deeper and deeper into a funk, starting out with a 2-6 record.  It looked like Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya might not last until the end of April with the team. But then something happened.  After Mike Pelfrey won a stunning 5-0 decision in Colorado, the Mets took one game out [...]

Orioles Continue To Spend; Add Gonzalez and Atkins

While things may be quiet in terms of Mets activity, the Orioles are wasting no time in building their club up for the 2010 campaign and beyond. Jeff Zrebiec and Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun are reporting that the Orioles have inked former Colorado Rockie, Garrett Atkins, to a one year deal. Atkins, who was non-tendered by the Rockies last week, is coming off the worst full season performance of his big league career. [...]

When Tom Becomes Pessimistic…..

We all have them—friends who are overly optimistic, even when things with our Mets look as grim as they possibly can.  To put this in perspective, during Game 6 of the ’86 World Series, I was hanging out with a bunch of friends in a bar on Long Island.  Among those friends was my buddy Tom from Bayside, and I distinctly remember Tom’s insane optimism through my beer-soaked haze as the season was slipping away.  [...]
