Mets Are Not In On Arroyo, Twins Closing In It didn’t take long for Jon Heyman and Marc Caring to confirm our report when we tweeted the following: Latest little nugget from Winter Meetings: "Mets interest in Bronson Arroyo is there but also very overstated." — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) December 10, 2013 The Mets have said they are interested, they also said yesterday that they are not looking to sign any pitcher to multiple […]
Enrique Rojas of ESPN is reporting that Cano and Mariners agreed to a 10 year deal worth $240 million dollars. That is an ungodly amount of money. Earlier this morning, it was reported that talks had broken down after Seattle made an offer of nine years and $225 million, according to Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the Daily News. Reportedly, Cano’s agent Jay-Z was pushing for a deal closer to $252 million, but the M’s didn’t budge […]
The Astros have acquired center fielder Dexter Fowler and a player to be named later from the Rockies in exchange for right-hander Jordan Lyles and outfielder Brandon Barnes, both teams announced. The Rockies had already discussed Fowler with 4-5 teams this offseason so this was expected. Last season, Fowler batted .263 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 415 at-bats, but it’s his .369 on-base percentage that appeals to most teams. I felt that Fowler profiled as a poor man’s Shin-Soo Choo when you consider […]
Nats Get Doug Fister From Tigers The Washington Nationals have acquired starting pitcher Doug Fister in a trade with the Detroit Tigers for infielder Steve Lombardozzi, left-hander Ian Krol and minor league lefty Robbie Ray. Fister, 29, went 14-9 with a 3.67 ERA in 33 games last year in his third season with the Tigers. Fister was tied for the American League lead in getting batters to ground into double plays. He allowed 0.6 home […]
A long long time ago, in a stadium directly across from Citi Field was a place where fans were born and memories were created. That was before the dark times – BEFORE THE MADOFF… It is funny when you watch one of your all time favorite movies that you can attribute certain quotes to specific areas of your favorite baseball team. Take for example this little nugget of jubilation: You see what I told you […]
Free agent outfielder/first baseman Corey Hart said that while there’s been plenty of interest in him from teams in both the AL and NL, there’s some hesitation until he gets medical clearance from doctors. “What’s so hard right now is I don’t get cleared until Dec. 3,” Hart said. “We have plenty of teams calling and checking in to see how I’m doing, but until the doctor says I’m 100%, they’re going to hold off until […]
I was taking a look at a month old post from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, who enlisted the services of one unbiased agent and one unbiased GM to put together their free agent predictions for this 2013-2014 offseason. I was curious to see where they had LaTroy Hawkins, Marlon Byrd and Josh Johnson pegged and surprising all three signed for far less than what many expected. Here is what they came up with: Hawkins […]
The Rockies agreed to terms with veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins on a one-year, $2.25 million deal, last night. The contract includes a $2.25MM option for 2015 with a $250K buyout and will be official once Hawkins passes a physical on Thursday. Hawkins will close games for Colorado who get themselves a steal. Sandy Alderson weighed in on the deal this afternoon and according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the issue was not closing games, it […]
Now that all the sorting out has been completed, the Mets will officially be selecting in the No. 10 slot for the 2014 First Year Player Draft. The Mets “earn” a protected pick going into the 2013-14 offseason. Here’s the official order for next June’s first round which includes the consolation pick for the Toronto Blue Jays: 1. Astros (2013 record: 51-111) 2. Marlins (62-100) 3. White Sox (63-99) 4. Cubs (66-96) 5. Twins (66-96) 6. Mariners (71-91) 7. Phillies (73-89) 8. Rockies (74-88) 9. Blue Jays (74-88) 10. Mets (74-88) 11. Blue Jays (for failure […]
