<p>The Mets (73-62) defeated the Marlins (63-72) 19-9 on Friday night. With 19 runs scored, it is the most ever scored by the Mets in a home game, <a href="https://x.com/SlangsOnSports/status/1961612811525669236" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>per Sarah Langs</strong></a>. The Mets knocked <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=perezeu02,perezeu01&amp;search=Eury+Pérez&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Eury Pérez</a> </strong>out of the game after just two-thirds of an inning and scored 12 runs over the first two innings. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=sotoju01,soto--004jua&amp;search=Juan+Soto&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Juan Soto</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nimmobr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alonspe01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Pete Alonso</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vientma01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Mark Vientos</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/torrelu01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Luis Torrens</a> </strong>(Vientos and Torrens off a position player) all homered in the effort.</p>
<p>In addition to the offensive fireworks, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=tong--000jon&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-29_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jonah Tong</a> </strong>made his major league debut. Tong looked great but saw his pitch count rise late into his outing, especially with some poor defense behind him in the fifth inning. He ended his night with four runs allowed (just one earned) in five innings with six hits, no walks and six strikeouts. His ERA through one start is 1.80.</p>

The Yankees also officially added <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bednada01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-01_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">David Bednar</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/birdja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-01_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jake Bird</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dovalca01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-01_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Camilo Doval</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cabaljo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-01_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">José Caballero</a> </strong>to their roster.</p>
<p>In their Yankee debuts against the Marlins, Bird and Bednar combined to allow six runs in the seventh inning, blowing a 9-4 Yankees lead. Doval and Caballero also made their Yankee debuts. Caballero pinch ran, stole a base and scored a run in the top of the ninth before recording a brutal error in the bottom of the ninth, with Doval on the mound, to tie the game at 12. The Marlins wound up walking it off in the bottom of the ninth, winning 13-12.</p>

<p>The Mets were powered by <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nimmobr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brandon Nimmo</a>, </strong>who delivered a monster game. He went 4-for-6 with two home runs and nine RBIs, which ties <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=delgaca01,delgad004car&amp;search=Carlos+Delgado&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Carlos Delgado</a> </strong>for the all-time club record in a single game. All of the RBIs came from the sixth inning onward and included a three-run homer, a grand slam, and a two-run double.</p>
<p>The offensive outburst was desperately needed from Nimmo, who entered Monday&#8217;s action seriously struggling. In one game, Nimmo raised his OPS from .575 to .679 and added nine RBIs to the 12 he had through 26 games.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mcneije01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jeff McNeil</a> </strong>also played a pivotal role in the victory, at least early on when the game was still close. McNeil, who has dealt with his own struggles the past few years, went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, and a sacrifice fly while playing center field and batting eighth in the order. McNeil drove in the Mets&#8217; second and third runs of the game, hitting his sacrifice fly in the second inning after a 10-pitch at-bat before crushing his homer on the first pitch of the fifth inning. He drove in three runs in total.</p>
<p>The Mets&#8217; 3-0 lead didn&#8217;t last long, as the lead was instantly doubled in the sixth inning. Nimmo broke the game open by doubling the Mets&#8217; lead from 3-0 to 6-0 with a 410-foot, three-run home run—his first of the game. He unloaded on a high fastball against lefty <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pocheco01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Colin Poche</a></strong>, who bested Nimmo in Sunday&#8217;s game by getting him to ground into a double play.</p>
<p>In case Nimmo&#8217;s sixth-inning home run wasn&#8217;t big enough of a statement, the left fielder crushed a grand slam in the seventh inning, pushing the Mets&#8217; lead from 7-0 to 11-0. Nimmo came up again in the eighth inning with the bases loaded yet again, and this time he ripped a double down the right field line, driving in two more runs to give him nine on the day.</p>
<p>McNeil and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/acunajo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Luisangel Acuña</a> </strong>drove in two more runs following Nimmo&#8217;s hit, putting the Mets up 15-0. In the top of the ninth, former Met <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rosaram01.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Amed Rosario</strong></a><strong> </strong>was sent out as the sacrificial position player to pitch to the Mets. He allowed four runs, giving up an RBI single to <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/winkeje01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jesse Winker</a> </strong>before <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vientma01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Mark Vientos</a> </strong>unloaded a three-run homer to give the Mets 19 runs for the day.</p>
<p>The Mets&#8217; shutout was broken by this point, with <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/u/urenajo01.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>José Ureña</strong></a> seriously laboring in the eighth inning and allowing five runs. Ureña, who pitched a clean seventh inning to begin his outing, stayed on for the ninth inning and was able to complete the three-inning save to keep the Mets&#8217; bullpen fresh.</p>
<p>Lost in all the offensive fireworks was another great outing from <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cannigr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Griffin Canning</a></strong>, who tossed five scoreless innings. With his effort, Canning improved his record to 4-1 and his ERA from 3.12 to 2.61 as he continues to look like a brilliant David Stearns signing. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kranima01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Max Kranick</a> </strong>also recorded a scoreless inning as his great season continues.</p>
<p>In the win, the Mets scored 19 runs on 21 hits, with eight Mets batters recording two or more hits. The win also makes the Mets the first MLB team to reach 20 wins this year, as their record now sits at 20-9.</p>
<p>They salvaged a series tie in emphatic fashion and will now head back to Citi Field for their next series.</p>
<h3><span style="color: #ff6600;">Stat of the Game: Nimmo Makes Mets History</span></h3>
<p>Brandon Nimmo had a historic game, tying Carlos Delgado for the most RBIs in a single game in Mets history with nine. He also became the first player to record nine RBIs in a three-inning span since <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sosasa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sammy Sosa</a> </strong>did so in Colorado in 2002.</p>
<h3><span style="color: #0000ff;">Player of the Game: Brandon Nimmo</span></h3>
<p>No surprise here. Nimmo had the best offensive game of his career and willed the Mets to a lopsided victory. He raised his OPS by .104 points and increased his RBI total on the year by 75 percent.</p>
<h3><span style="color: #ff6600;">On Deck</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #333333;">The Mets return home Tuesday to begin a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/peterda01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">David Peterson</a> </strong>(1-1, 3.29 ERA) will go for the Mets while <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/search.fcgi?pid=rodried05,rodried01&amp;search=Eduardo+Rodríguez&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-04-28_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Eduardo Rodriguez</a> </strong>(1-2, 4.40 ERA) will go for Arizona in a matchup of southpaws. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #333333;">First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on SNY.</span></p>

It&#8217;s amazing news for Mets fans, who have seen some brutal performances from the team&#8217;s bullpen during his absence. Díaz won&#8217;t solve all the bullpen&#8217;s problems, but the impact of getting that extra man back and having an actual closer can&#8217;t be overstated. The Mets went 5-5 during Díaz&#8217;s absence but certainly could have and should have won more.</p>

The previous record of 26 was set last year by Lindor, trumping the 23 that <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cabreas01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-09-22_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Asdrúbal Cabrera</a></strong> hit in 2016. Now, just three years into his Mets tenure, Lindor has easily solidified himself as one of the great shortstops in Mets history and will continue to break records as he continues his illustrious career.</p>

<p>Good morning, Mets fans!</p>
<p>The Mets defeated the Cardinals 6-1 on Friday night, giving them consecutive wins for the first time in June. The Mets entered the game with a 3-9 record during the month, struggling mightily and failing to gain any sort of momentum. Now with two straight wins and two more games against the reeling Cardinals on deck, the Mets have a chance to get back on track.</p>
<p>During the Mets victory, <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/megilty01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-06-16_br" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tylor Megill</a></strong> pitched six excellent innings, giving up one earned run. <p>Good morning, Mets fans!</p>
<p>According to Paulsen of <strong><a href="https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2023/03/world-baseball-classic-record-audience-japan-usa-final-fs1/">Sports Media Watch</a></strong>, there was a record audience of nearly five million viewers for the World Baseball Classic final.  The Fox Sports 1 audience outdrew all but one MLB game on the network last year (including postseason). The game referenced was Phillies vs. Padres NLCS game four with an average of 4.88 million viewers. Tuesday’s Japan vs. United States World Baseball Classic championship game averaged 4.48 million viewers on Fox Sports 1 and 4.97 million viewers when including Fox Sports Deportes.</p>
<p>Now, it is time for the morning briefing.</p>

<p>On this date four years ago, the Mets agreed to send outfield prospect <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kelenja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jarred Kelenic</a></strong>, right-handed pitching prospects <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dunnju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Justin Dunn</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bautige01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Gerson Bautista</a></strong>, and veterans <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/swarzan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Anthony Swarzak</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bruceja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Jay Bruce</a></strong> to the Mariners in exchange for closer Edwin Díaz and second baseman <strong><a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Robinson Canó</a></strong>.</p>
<p>Fast forward to Dec. 1, 2022, when Mets&#8217; GM Billy Eppler and Díaz are on a Zoom call with reporters to talk about the <a title="Full Contract Details Released for Edwin Diaz’s Record Deal" href="https://metsmerizedonline.com/full-contract-details-released-for-edwin-diazs-record-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>record-setting</strong></a> five-year, $102 million deal the Mets gave the start closer. Díaz acknowledged that he saw on social media that it was the four-year anniversary of the deal. &#8220;Four years ago, I was getting traded to here, and now I&#8217;m signing the biggest deal for a reliever,&#8221; Díaz said.</p>
<p>The 28-year-old Díaz entered the 2022 season coming two solid seasons in a row after a disastrous first season in New York and he quickly announced to the baseball world that he was ready to dominate once again. Díaz struck out a ridiculous 50.2% of the batters he faced and posted a minuscule 1.31 ERA in 62 innings for the Mets as they won 101 games.</p>
<p>Both Díaz and Eppler said that the deal to stay in New York came together quickly as both sides made it clear what they wanted. &#8220;The number one priority for me and my family was to stay in New York because we love the team and the organization. They treated us great and we feel like they&#8217;re a part of our family,&#8221; Diaz said.</p>
<p>Eppler was of course asked questions about the Mets&#8217; long list of free agents and how he plans on filling out the roster for the 2023 season. &#8220;Without getting into specifics&#8230; I&#8217;m having an active dialogue on many fronts. The volume of phone calls and connections&#8230; are pretty constant,&#8221; Eppler said.</p>
<p>The opinion of Mets fans on the trade with the Mariners has certainly much different on Dec. 1 of 2022.</p>
