Who’s Hot Cesar Puello, OF (BIN): If you haven’t heard by now, Puello enjoyed perhaps the best week of his MiLB career last week when he crushed six home runs in just 25 at-bats. He posted a .600 average, going 15-for-25, with three doubles, six home runs, and 15 RBIs. He also stole three bases. Puello’s recent hot hitting has catapulted him to the front of our outfield prospect corps — with some fans even […]
Rafael Montero was absolutely amazing today as he continued his stretch of dominance over the entire Eastern League. Montero breezed through his start against the Altoona Curve with seven more shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk over that span. He struck out six and dazzled anyone watching as he spun a gem. Over his last three starts in AA, Montero has pitched a combined 20.o innings, allowed just eleven hits and four […]
On Monday night, I watch the replay of Johan Santana’s no-hitter on SNY and was just as captivated as the night I watched it live on television. But this time around, I kept thinking to myself what could have been with Santana had his Mets’ tenure not been decimated by injuries. Then I of course looked to the future hope of the Mets’ starting rotation that almost certainly does not include the veteran lefty. Matt […]

Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas snuck by Fresno, 2-1. Binghamton shutout New Hampshire, 6-0. St. Lucie lost the first game of their doubleheader against Charlotte, 2-1. The second game was rained out. Savannah shut down Kannapolis, 5-0. Both DSL Mets1 and Mets2 won their first games to begin the 2013 DSL. Prospect Pipeline A trio of top pitching prospects took the mound for the Mets organization yesterday: Zack Wheeler, Rafael Montero, and Domingo Tapia. […]
There aren’t many pitchers that pitch seven innings of scoreless baseball, and you can say that wasn’t the most dominating performance we’ve seen this year from that guy. Rafael Montero is one of those guys. Montero’s four strikeouts was his lowest total of the year thus far, but the guy completely shut down New Hampshire tonight, pitching seven scoreless innings. Montero threw 102 pitches tonight (70 for strikes), and allowed six hitters to reach base safely […]
Kevin Kernan of the New York Post, has a must-read post on what the Mets blueprint or “plan” is going forward and unsurprisingly it’s all about the starting pitching. A National League executive told Kernan that “the Mets have the best pitching in the minor leagues bar none. They are really, really deep in starting pitching.” You know all the names: Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Michael Fulmer, Logan Verrett, Rafael Montero and a at least […]
Who’s Hot (5/19-5/26) Matthew Bowman, RHP (STL): Bowman had an excellent week, posting a 2.57 ERA in two starts. He tossed 14 innings and allowed four runs on 14 hits. Most impressive, however, were his 17/2 strikeout to walk ratio. Bowman has quietly had a very good season and was one of the first players to earn a promotion this season after posting a 2.64 ERA in 30.2 innings in Savannah. So far in St. […]
In a recent interview with Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog, ESPN’s Buster Olney talked about the free agent market, specifically how the Mets will have to approach the offseason in order to land some of the best players on the market: For example, take Shin-Soo Choo, who is a free agent this fall. I think the Mets will have to do what the Mariners had had to do, in recent years with position players, and overpay […]
