Seven-time All-Star third baseman David Wright checked in with MMO before Game 2 of the Mets’ three-game series against the Giants tonight, to share his thoughts about playing in the All-Star Game at Citi Field, the National League’s chances for the Home Run Derby, all these crazy extra inning games, and what’s in store for the second half of the season. MMO: You’re going to your seventh All-Star Game and you have a plethora of […]
Welcome to the return of an MMN original feature, Boom or Bust! This is a feature where our writers contribute their two cents about whether or not a particular prospect will…you guessed it: be a boom in the big leagues or be a bust. This week’s topic is Triple-A outfielder, Matt den Dekker. Kirk Cahill: I think the question of boom or bust really depends on what your expectations are for den Dekker. If you’re […]
I usually don’t write these types of posts and in fact I don’t believe I’ve ever done this before, but here goes… For the greater part of this year I’ve been very down on MMO – a site I started on March 5, 2005. I’m not talking about our content which I am always proud of. We have one of the best teams of Mets bloggers ever assembled and they never cease to amaze me with […]
Cyclones’ lefty reliever John Mincone is back in Brooklyn this summer, and already he’s off to a similar start as last year’s All-Star campaign. He maybe was a candidate to start the year at a higher level of the minors, but he suffered a bout of tendinitis that delayed his offseason conditioning. He’s settled in as the Cyclones’ closer this year, and he’s been unhittable – striking out seven batters in 3.2 innings of work. […]
Baseball Prospectus just unveiled their 2013 mid-season Top 50 Prospect Rankings. For the Mets, right-hander Noah Syndergaard checked in at No. 23, while catcher Travis d’Arnaud was ranked at No. 28. Both players of course, were acquired before the season from Toronto in the R.A. Dickey deal. Syndergaard, recently made a sparkling debut for Double-A Binghamton on Sunday after his promotion from Advanced-A St. Lucie where he was 3-3 with a 3.11 ERA in 12 starts. The […]
It is official… The Mets have agreed to terms with first-round pick 1B Dominic Smith who signed his contract today at Port St. Lucie where he has been working out. Smith, a big left-handed first baseman out Serra High School in California, was selected 11th overall in this month’s First-Year Player Draft. The Mets reportedly signed Smith for under slot at about $2.6 million, just below the $2,840,300 value for the 11th overall pick. I […]
Some of my greatest memories with my father have revolved around sports. High-fiving eachother after witnessing an Islanders overtime win at the Nassau Coliseum. Sitting on the LIRR on our way to the Giants ticker-tape parade while my dad called me in sick to school; the attendance secretary not buying it for a minute. Nearly getting our heads taken off by a Skip Schumaker foul ball at Camden Yards. There are so many great memories […]
Updated by Satish Ram at 7:45 PM: Adam Rubin is reporting that first baseman Josh Satin, center fielder Collin Cowgill and lefthanded reliever Josh Edgin will be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Robert Carson who were all optioned to Triple-A after today’s 8-4 loss to the Marlins. Satin will be added to the 40-man roster to fill the empty spot left when Rick Ankiel was released yesterday. That means within the last 24 hours, […]
Update: 1:30 PM Paul Casella, of MLB.com, has reported that Wheeler’s call-up could come as early as this Monday. Casella states Zack Wheeler’s big-league promotion has seemed imminent for days now with the most recent sign of a looming call-up coming on Monday. ESPN reported Wheeler’s first start would come next Friday. Jay Horwitz, the club’s vice president of media relations, flew across the country on the team’s off day last Monday to meet with […]
