Maybe I should move more often. My family moved from Tennessee to Wisconsin two weeks ago, and about that time the Mets were slipping deeper and deeper into a funk, starting out with a 2-6 record. It looked like Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya might not last until the end of April with the team. But then something happened. After Mike Pelfrey won a stunning 5-0 decision in Colorado, the Mets took one game out […]
Yes, you did read the title correctly. Over the past week and a half, Mets pitchers have indeed been good for nothing, meaning they’ve been good enough to hold the opposition to practically nothing on the scoreboard. Pitching was not supposed to be the strong point of the 2010 Mets. After all, the Mets’ starting rotation was supposed to be made up of Johan Santana and The Four Rainouts. Mike Pelfrey had come off a […]
The pitching this young season has been great. I don’t think that anyone can honestly say they thought the pitchers, be it the rotation or the bullpen would perform the way they have so far. Every expert said that the Mets couldn’t contend in 2010 because of the starting pitching after Johan but the starters, especially Mike Pelfrey have proven those experts wrong. The pitchers have stepped up this season, now it’s time for the […]
Last night’s one nothing victory over Atlanta cemented a terrific start to the 2010 campaign for Mets hurler, Mike Pelfrey (4-0); possibly of his career with now 24 consecutive scoreless innings. As the great Joe Morgan pointed out himself during the game, Pelfrey showed strong signs of growth, maturity, poise and skill, throwing five shutout innings in the win. What was most impressive was the new bend but don’t break style Pelf showcased facing Jason […]
Jose Reyes wasted no time using his speed to get the Mets on the board early in this rain soaked 1-0 win that saw the Mets sweep the Braves. It was the fourth straight victory for the Mets and sixth of their last seven. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey started and it was clear right from the start that he didn’t have anything working. He wasn’t sharp, couldn’t locate his pitches and found himself in trough all […]
After 2 weeks and 12 games the Mets saw everything we saw and have been saying since the spring. The team made alterations to their lineup and ballclub. By calling up Ike Davis, designating Mike Jacobs, and adding youth to the Mets clubhouse, a looser, more cohesive team appears to have immediately been the by product of the move, as evidenced by last night’s victory and post game antics. (How was the shaving cream pie […]
What an interesting week in Mets baseball. Not only did we see a 20 inning marathon game, we saw our closer get the win and a starter get the save. In addition to that, we saw the Mets call up Ike Davis from AAA and demote Mike Jacobs. Some people have been giving up on the Mets already because of their slow start. Give them time, and at least a few more games. Here’s a […]
Last night’s epic 20 inning marathon between the Cardinals and the Mets had more ups and downs than a ride on the Cyclone in Coney Island. When the game finally came to an end and I saw Luis Castillo field the grounder off the bat of Ryan Ludwick and fire it to Mike Jacobs at first base for the final out. it took a couple of minutes for me to finally rise up and cheer like […]
The Mets avoided a potential five game losing streak and now head to St. Louis on a positive note thanks to Mike Pelfrey who helped deliver a big 5-0 win over the Rockies this afternoon at Coors Field. Game Notes Pelfrey improved his record to 2-0 today with an absolutely dominating performance in which he pitched seven shutout innings and held the Rockies to just five hits, while walking none and striking out a season high […]
