Mikey J’s Trip to Miller Park

Let me start out by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the game in Milwaukee on Sunday, in which the Mets salvaged a game and avoided a sweep to a team that previously had a horrible home record.  We recently moved to Madison and a friend with Brewers season tickets invited my wife, 2-year old son and I to the game.  In addition to the outcome being awesome, there were several other observations I [...]

Takahashi Phillin’ It, Mets Win Fourth Straight 5-0

Hisanori Takahashi had his second straight scoreless outing, and the Mets took the 2nd game of the series from the Phillies guaranteeing them a winning series at the least Game Notes Hisanori Takahashi went out in place of Jonathon Niese and put up another ridiculously effective outing, going 6 innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 6. Tak was dominating the Phillies all game, only allowing 1 extra base hit throughout the entire game. [...]

Can The Mets Win With The Wilpons As Owners?

When a team in any sport is struggling everyone from the general manager to the coaches/manger to the players take the blame.  In some cases like the Mets it’s true.  Omar Minaya needs to go as does Jerry Manuel and most of his coaching staff.  I know of a certain pitcher making $36 million dollars that’s now in the bullpen that needs to be released and a couple of guys on the bench should be [...]

Heyman: Rockies/Castillo, HoJo In Jeopardy

Update 5:00 PM Jon Heyman of SI.com added some new information ands confirms the earlier report that the Mets and Rockies are talking about Luis Castillo. But more interesting than that, is his feeling that Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson “appears to be in some jeopardy” of losing his job. Regarding Castillo, a person connected to the Rockies says they are “not even close” to having enough money to afford Luis Castillo, and that the Mets would have to [...]

Time To Give Luis Castillo a Break!

Opening Day is a new beginning, whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic, it should be a day to celebrate the potential that your team could have a great season. It should be a day to enjoy the game you love, and say goodbye to the dreary winter months. Your team gets introduced for the first time, and if you’re lucky, you’re at the 1st home game of the year to show your support for your team!  [...]

Batting 2nd And Playing 2nd Base, #1, Luis Castillo

Can you believe that Luis Castillo has won the starting 2nd base job for the 2010 New York Mets?  He is the last man standing.  He was a huge underdog to win the job.  But he persevered.  He beat out Orlando Hudson, Adam Kennedy, Felipe Lopez, Brandon Phillips, and any other 2nd baseman that might have been available through trade or free agency. Luis might have won the job by default but he still deserves [...]

Spring Training Wrap-Up – Bay Watch Edition

To begin, catcher Rod Barajas passed his physical today and will report to Mets camp tomorrow morning. According to Jon Heyman, he is guaranteed $500K, and then gets $400K for making the Opening Day roster. He can earn another $1MM with easily attainable incentives. * * * * * * * * * * Jason Bay arrived to camp today and spoke to reporters. Kevin Kernan of the NY Post relays that Bay said he is a “lead [...]

Time To Step Up – Part 2, Infielders

Last week I wrote how it was time for the pitchers on this team to step up to plate for the upcoming 2010 season.  This week I’ll be looking at how the infield needs to step up and make 2010 a successful season. Rod Barajas: With the signing of Rod Barajas we finally (hopefully) are done signing catchers and unless something drastic happens this spring Barajas is going to be the Mets starting catcher come [...]

Time To Step Up – Part 1, Pitching

Pitchers and catchers are arriving in Port St. Lucie, workouts will be starting shortly and soon exhibition games will be played in Florida.  The Mets will be trying to erase the 2009 season and focus on winning in 2010.  There a lot of question marks coming into the 2010 season for the Mets such as their rotation after Johan Santana, Daniel Murphy’s ability to be a productive 1st baseman both offensively and defensively, Luis Castillo [...]

I Want Hudson On The Team

For the last 2 off seasons Met fans have been debating furiously with each other on whether or not the Mets should sign Orlando Hudson.  I believe the pro Hudson fans last season wanted him for the simple fact that Hudson is not Luis Castillo.  Whatever other skills Hudson possessed did not matter to Met fans who wanted to run Luis Castillo out of town after his horrible 2008 season which saw him become a [...]
