In Doug’s Dugout today we discuss, Anger, the disliked trio of Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Beltran, and Packing Materials. If you are an avid Mets fan you should be angry today. Seething actually. Angry your GM, Omar Minaya waved the White Flag at the trading deadline; a team with numerous holes couldn’t fill any of them? (Maybe he was in a cave and didn’t see what the rest of his division rivals did at […]
OK, fine, that was the turning point, but the real indictment of the Mets came in the eight other innings. Johan Santana was professional enough to keep the game close, but the Mets’ offense slumbered through what they called a critical game. It’s not the adversity, but how you respond that is critical, and the Mets responded like a .500 team. To a man, the Mets said they understood the magnitude of last night and […]
Mets start their six game road trip against two division rivals with a 4-1 loss against the Braves. The Mets just seemed to give up during the game, with the exception of Santana who got better as the game went on. There was, once again, no offense to help Santana who had a decent outing despite a rough first inning. The defense just seemed like they couldn’t bother to give it their best either. Many […]
In a game where David Wright hit two home runs and the Mets offense put up some run support, Raul Valdes was pitching volleyballs and the Diamondbacks tee’d off, winning the opening game of the series 9-6. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey was hit early on in the game, and hit hard. Mike’s final line of five runs allowed, four earned on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five and two-third innings doesn’t […]
On a day where R.A. Dickey delivered another quality start, the Mets offense couldn’t manage any offense against Arizona and fell short of a bid for a comeback, losing 3-2, ensuring their second straight losing series on the road. Game Notes R.A. Dickey went to the mound today, and in the dead air of Arizona went seven innings giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The air really did […]
Mets get crushed by the Diamondbacks in the first game of the series, 13-2. Mike Pelfrey had another poor start and the bullpen wasn’t much better as the D-Backs garnered 18 hits off of the Mets. The Mets get their best lineup tonight with the return of Castillo, but can only manage six hits and two runs. Game Summary Mike Pelfrey had his fourth consecutive poor start tonight. Most likely his worst start of the […]
Ruben Tejada had a closed door meeting today with the Mets, and apparently he couldn’t convince them to let him stay in the majors. He was optioned back to AAA-Buffalo as Luis Castillo has finished his rehab and has returned to the Mets. Tejada was optioned because the Mets want him to play everyday and he wouldn’t have had much playing time now with Castillo back. Jose Reyes has also returned and will be in […]
Yesterday, after the Mets salvaged the final game in San Francisco to avoid the sweep, Jerry Manuel spoke with reporters. Luis Castillo – Castillo will be joining the Mets today in Arizona, where the Mets begin a three game series with the Diamondbacks. He is expected to be activated before the game and resume his tole as the team’s everyday second baseman. Jose Reyes – All signs point to the return of Jose Reyes to […]
Before Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Jose Reyes was scratched from the lineup. He had discomfort in his right oblique, and will be shut down until he is 100 percent. Reyes hasn’t swung from the left side of the plate since last Sunday. Mets will continue to have rookie Ruben Tejada play short with Alex Cora playing second base for now. For those of you who don’t like the idea of Alex Cora playing […]
