The Mets were shutout today by the score of 3-0 as the Marlins took the final two games of the series to gain a split of the four game series. Matt Harvey started and was cruising along through five dominant innings, but ran into a buzz saw in in the sixth inning when the Marlins scored all three of their runs and knocked him out of the game. Overall he allowed five hits, walked none […]
Zack Wheeler made his bid for history tonight as he took the Marlins to task with 6.1 innings of no-hit baseball — although he was eventually saddled with a no-decision. Wheeler was masterful through those first six and some innings and was keeping his pitch count low. The Mets also played solid defense behind him, and things were starting to look serious when he struck out Stanton to lead-off the bottom of the seventh early. […]
Close your eyes Oleosmirf… As I predicted last night, Jordany Valdespin has been named the Triple-A Pacific Coast League’s Player of the Week. You can read the rest below… I think I’m gonna start reading palms and do some fortunetelling on the side… Original Post Last night, a red-hot Jordany Valdespin went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored, a walk, and an RBI, as he continues to demolish the Pacific Coast League. If he isn’t […]
Another week, another heartbreaker. After taking two of three from the Phillies, all looked bright as the Mets looked to use their (then) strong offense against the Braves and a struggling Nationals team; it was an incredible opportunity to gain some ground and, with the way the Nats and Phillies have been playing, move up one or two spots in the standings. But, as we have all learned by now, the Mets love to tease. […]
Remember when the Mets were trying to land Michael Bourn during the offseason? Bourn decided to take the money and run to Cleveland instead. So how’s that going for him? Well, his new team is doing well in the American League Central, just three games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. But they’re not succeeding because of Bourn. In fact, other than a decent batting average (.291), Bourn’s other numbers are far less than what Cleveland […]
There’s an old adage in baseball: you can never have enough good pitching. There’s another adage in life: you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. Beat both in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy and you’ve got something resembling the 2013 New York Mets. In case none of that makes any sense, consider someone like Carlos Torres. In his last two starts, he’s gone […]
Sometimes I wonder where would the Mets be right now if they had only started the season with Juan Lagares as their Opening Day centerfielder as I had hoped all along. As he tore up Triple-A pitching to the tune of .346/.378/.551 while playing the best centerfield I’ve ever seen since Carlos Beltran was in his prime, it frustrated me to see the parade of scrubs, journeymen and Quad-A players the team paraded in center […]
Kirk Nieuwenhuis was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas after tonight’s 2-1 loss to make room for Jenrry Mejia on the 25-man roster. Terry Collins said Mejia would not be returning to the minors with the Mets needing to take the roster back to 25 players, and suggested the Mets were preparing to use a six-man rotation that includes Mejia for the foreseeable future. This will leave the Mets with only four bench players. Nieuwenhuis was hitless in his […]
The New York Mets came back from a heartbreaking loss on Monday to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 and even up the series at a game apiece tonight at Citi Field. Carlos Torres was impressive again in his second start for the Mets. After being greeted by a home run from Andrelton Simmons to leadoff the game, Torres settled into a groove and weaved in and out of trouble as he held the Braves scoreless […]
