Who’s The Real Top Prospect; Flores, Martinez Or… Thole

This season shortstop Wilmer Flores seems to have overtaken outfielder Fernando Martinez as the Mets top prospect. That said, there are many scouts out there who don’t think either of them are all they are cracked up to be. Yesterday, Tim Bontemps of the NY Post reported on what one scout had to say regarding the Mets number one prospect, Wilmer Flores. “I was not impressed at all. . . . In fact, I was kind of [...]

Get To Know A Prospect: Josh Thole

In this week’s Get To Know a Prospect, we will take a look at a 22 year old catcher who, although he is on the DL right now, in the last two seasons has started to make some noise in the Mets system as a catcher to watch. He would score on Josh Petersen’s game tying homer. Later in the 9th, Ruben Tejada hit a grounder to second, which was booted for an error, scoring DJ Wabick with the winning run. Mark Kiger, Thole, and Petersen had multi hit [...]

A – Eddie Kunz was considered to be the Mets closer of the future, but that label began to wear toward the end of the 2008 season.  He didn’t impress the Mets after a brief cup of coffee last season, and he was completely ineffective when he [...]

4/23 Minor League Report! VALDESPIN!

Binghamton 2, New Hampshire 3 Jose Sanchez gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 innings. Adam Bostick, Julio De La Cruz and John Madden worked 3.1 innings of hitless relief, but the offense fell a run short. The Mets had 7 hits, and drew 5 walks, but they went 2 for 12 with RISP and left 10 men on base. Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 4, BB, .280) and Carl Loadenthal [...]
