Four of the Mets minor league affiliates opened up their seasons last Thursday, and with almost a week of game play in the books, it is a great time to bust out the first Who’s Hot and Who’s Not for the 2013 minor league season. Who’s Hot Josh Satin 1B, Las Vegas – Josh Satin has been scalding hot to begin the AAA season, with a .483 average (14-for-29) and a 1.378 OPS so far. He […]
Fresno Grizzlies 6, Las Vegas 51s 3 The 51s (4-3) dropped a game to the Grizzlies on Wednesday night after Chris Schwinden was rocked for six runs. Schwinden got the start for Las Vegas and struggled to keep the ball in within the confines of the stadium, as he was taken deep three times over his mere four innings of work. He allowed eight hits overall – but he did manage not to walk any, […]
Las Vegas 1, Fresno 4 Mets’ top prospect Zack Wheeler picked up the loss in last night’s matchup against the Fresno Grizzlies. He pitched 5.1 innings, and struggled with his command on his fastball, walking three batters and giving up eight hits. On a positive note, he managed to strike out six batters and hold the opposing offense to one earned run. However, it wasn’t enough, as Fresno starter Yusmeiro Petit kept the Las Vegas […]
Sacramento 8, Las Vegas 4 The Las Vegas 51s(3-1) were handed their first loss of the season Sunday as they were unable to hold Sacramento in check in the seventh, falling in an 8-4 decision to the River Cats. Carlos Torres got the nod for the 51s and put out a solid effort, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out a trio, taking a no-decision. […]
Las Vegas 51s 6, Sacramento River Cats 1 The 51s improved to 3-0 this season with a win last night against the River Cats behind good pitching from Collin McHugh and a three-run sixth inning. Before Collin McHugh allowed his first and only run on the evening, the 51s had already given him four runs. A sacrifice fly by D’Arnaud in the third drove in Brian Bixler and Eric Campbell picked up a sac fly […]
The Mets announced they have assigned infield prospects Wilmer Flores and Josh Satin, and right-handed reliever Carlos Torres to minor league camp. That leaves 42 players remaining in major league camp. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud, who was expected to be among today’s cuts, survives to play another day and remains in major league camp. However, he is still expected to start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas. According to the new CBA rules, any prospect on the 40-man roster who becomes […]
Updated on 3/10 at 11:00 PM Jordany Valdespin went 1-for-1 with an RBI after he replaced Marlon Byrd who went hitless in three at-bats today. Spin (.360) pulled ahead of Byrd (.348) in the batting race this Spring. Meanwhile, Collin Cowgill went 0-for-3, but is still batting .375 to lead the pack. It’s shaping up to be a nice race and one of the more interesting Spring battles. Originally posted on 3/9 After following the […]
Updated by Joe D. at 5:00 PM Here’s a brief update to this morning’s Jordany Valdespin post. Dog-house or not, it would seem like a big mistake to me if Valdespin fails to go north with the Mets when all is said and done. That said, Terry Collins continues to downplay his chances of making the team, saying, “It’s March 8th. I’ll wait.” It could be the manger’s way of keeping the 25-year old Valdespin motivated. Valdespin […]
Over at NJ.com, the online home of the Star-Ledger, Jorge Castillo tells us that during the offseason, Mets manager Terry Collins, personally called infielders Justin Turner, Josh Satin, Zach Lutz and Brandon Hicks to give them all the same piece of advice – be prepared to play some corner outfield. As far as any experience either of the four have roaming the green pastures, it’s almost nil. Once upon a time, months after he was […]
