Every time an updated injury report is released, August appears to be the month circled for the majority of the disabled players to make their return to the Mets. What will this mean for the players who have been thrust into everyday roles over the past few months? Let’s start analyzing what August has in store for the Mets, beginning with the hitters. The key Mets injuries in 2009 have been the ones to Carlos […]
According to Steve Popper of the Bergen Record, Carlos Beltran took batting practice today on the field for about twenty minutes. Popper said that Beltran appeared to be “fine”. He reports that Beltran hit a ball hard enough to reach the Pepsi Porch, which is definitely encouraging. He even goes as far as saying that he was surprised that Beltran was not in the lineup tonight. Bart Hubbuch echoed a similar report, however he noticed […]
Carlos Beltran had been playing with injuries throughout most of the early season. He occasionally had to miss a few games due to these aches and pains, but continued to play his way into the lineup with his hot start. When Beltran could not take the pain anymore in June, he became the latest casualty to the injury bug that was claiming players left and right. Once Beltran was placed on the disabled list, the […]
Adam Rubin of the Daily News was kind enough to answer a few questions for Mets Merized Online. It’s been a hectic week as far as Mets news goes, and I wanted to get his thoughts on the Halladay situation, Carlos Beltran’s bone bruise, the shift in our top prospects, and other Mets concerns. 1. According to a report by Jon Heyman, Omar Minaya rejected a trade that would have landed Roy Halladay in exchange for prospects; […]
Today brings with it some assorted good and bad news about injured players. SS Jose Reyes ran the bases for the first time since his leg injury (tendinitis), and took fielding and throwing practice. Reyes ran from first to third, and is likely to run full-speed on Saturday. If his Saturday outing goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment soon. John Maine’s (shoulder) news was not as good. Mets fans will hold their breath […]
Okay so it’s not really the conference call from hell, but lately doesn’t it seem like Omar’s become the harbinger of death whenever he addresses the media? Today he had another one of those conference calls where he throws an unexpected curveball at us, or was it a spitter? There are many versions out there about what was said, but I think I’ll go with Newsday’s David Lennon’s take on it because he does an […]
Much has been made about the 2009 Mets resembling the 1987 team because of the injuries. The difference is that this year’s injuries have mainly cost the Mets their offensive spark plugs while the 1987 team lost their starting pitchers to various injuries. I have done extensive research on the 1987 team and I will try to show why the current team is not dead yet. For those of you who already know the ending […]
By August 12, a little less than one month from today, we’ll have a good idea whether the Mets will still be hunt for post season play, or if the 2009 Met season will end in disappointment (like the past three years). Thursday the Mets begin their first road trip of the second half with four games down in Atlanta. The Braves and Mets are always a good match-up. This series we have the Jeff […]
For as bad as the Mets have looked at times this season (and I have advocated blowing up the team or just not paying attention to them anymore), it’s almost miraculous that they are not worse than three games under .500 and 6 ½ games out of first place. When you think about the lousy starting pitching we’ve endured at times, the mental mistakes that seem to multiply, the injuries to most of the key […]
