Updated post 4/1 2:40 pm Omar Minaya and Jose Reyes spoke to reporters today and shed some light on why the decision was made to place Jose Reyes on the disabled list yesterday. “We want him for the whole year, and Opening Day is traditionally a big day, but the goal is to be able to have him for the whole season,” Minaya said. “We feel it’s safer just to be able to have him […]
In a NY Post exclusive, Mike Puma sheds light on one Mets player who doesn’t sound too pleased with how the Mets are “babying” Jose Reyes. This anonymous player has his own thoughts on whether Jose Reyes should start on Opening Day. Just call this show “Everybody Loves Reyes.” Except that many Mets players aren’t laughing as the organization tries to decide whether Jose Reyes should be part of the team’s Opening Day roster. On […]
We have just one more week of Spring Training left and the good news out of Mets camp is that Jose Reyes may soon appear in a minor league game perhaps as soon as today. Also, Omar Minaya said this weekend that we should not rule Jose Reyes out for Opening Day. As soon as Reyes gets back into his regimen I have a feeling we’re going to revisit a hot topic that was introduced at […]
Great news to report Mets fans… The Mets announced on Tuesday morning that their starting shortstop’s thyroid readings have normalized and that he has been cleared to engage in baseball activities. Reyes is expected to resume his Spring Training upon his arrival in camp. His thyroid levels have returned to normal, and he is on his way back to Tradition Field later today and will be in Mets camp and on the field tomorrow. Additionally, […]
We now return you to ‘As The World Turns‘… That should be what each return from a commercial on SNY and WPIX says this exhibition season… I am becoming more concerned as the Mets continue to have more questions than answers each day spring training continues. What drama… We should be getting closer to making cuts. Instead the questions are becoming more pronounced each day. At first base, if Daniel Murphy is starting, he’d better abandoned that more upright […]
Grapefruit action seems to be dulling the panic that echoed throughout Mets camp following news of Jose Reyes missing possibly 8 weeks of action due to a thyroid condition. Frankly the club has shown many positives in pre-season action, the negativity was clearly premature and their greatest area of concern, pitching, has shown great promise. That said, I tend to withhold all judgments until regular season action begins in less than a month. Preseason is a […]
We all know the Mets added a power bat in Jason Bay, are still dealing with injuries/medical issues to key players like Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran, and have huge holes in the starting rotation. But I haven’t heard as much talk about the bullpen. A year ago, almost to the day, I wrote a blog on this site about how the Mets’ revamped bullpen, a terrible weakness in 2008, would pile up K’s and […]
It seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. After coming off a miserable season that was marred by injury in 2009, what made that season worse than it should have been was the apparent lack of depth. Carlos Delgado goes down and is replaced by untested leftfielder Daniel Murphy… Jose Reyes goes down and is replaced by Alex Cora… In both instances the downgrades were too much to overcome. Of […]
Updated 3/11 12:50 pm Reyes Will Be Okay, But Needs To Completely Shut It Down For A Few Weeks… In a surprise development to the Mets and Jose Reyes’ agent, the shortstop will remain in New York for several weeks and open the season on the DL. Test results to determine the extent of Jose Reyes’s hyperthyroidism confirm that his levels are still too high for physical activity, according to a release by the Mets. […]
