Today’s Postponement Gives Harvey Seven Days Of Rest Between Starts
Because today’s game between the Mets and Braves was postponed due to rain, and the decision was made not to have a doubleheader on Sunday, right-hander Matt Harvey will now have seven full days of rest in between starts. Harvey was originally scheduled to pitch tomorrow’s game on Sunday, but Jon Niese who was today’s scheduled starter, will pitch tomorrow’s contest instead. With the Mets off on Monday, Harvey will get the nod on Tuesday [...]

Mets Have Made A Theme Of Losing In “Wild” Fashion
Despite the incredible effort by Jeremy Hefner on Tuesday night, the Mets were unable to get just three more outs as a ninth inning meltdown capped off by a Brandon Lyon wild pitch handed the Marlins their second straight walk-off victory against the Amazin’s and their first series win of the season. Surprisingly enough, the Mets have become quite used to the demoralizing oddity known as the walk-off wild pitch. In fact, last night was the [...]

The Terry Collins Watch Keeps Ticking
Updated on 5/1 Bob Klapisch of The Record, mirrors my post from Monday that the Terry Collins watch has begun: The countdown on Terry Collins began on the first day of pitchers and catchers and nothing so far has made it any easier to believe he’ll be back with the Mets in 2014. Of course, Collins has handled his lame-duck status with grace and maturity — he’s an honest guy, good with people — but [...]

Wright Questionable For Tonight, But Not As Questionable As Collins’ Recent Moves
The bad news about the Mets keeps getting worse. David Wright, who was supposed to rest his stiff neck last night, was used as a pinch-hitter and now he’s questionable for tonight’s game at Miami, While it is conjecture Wright might have done something to aggravate his condition, the question can’t help be asked. Seriously, is winning a game in April worth losing Wright for a period of time? That’s the perception today and considering the Mets’ [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: Frustrated By The Phillies Edition
In last weekend’s edition of 3&3, I cautioned to watch out for a Dodger’s team that was struggling. That warning should have been extended to this weekend’s series with the Phillies as well. Against two teams that have been struggling, our Mets finished 1-5. Looks like our team is fast becoming a cure to another team’s slump. 3 UP Kyle’s Complete Game: We don’t like giving and “Ups” to the opposition, especially the Phillies, but [...]

Mets Lose Fourth Straight After 5-1 Loss To Phillies
Boy, I’ll tell ya… Karma? It’s a bitch… The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Mets 5-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to complete the sweep and send the Mets reeling to their fourth loss in a row. Jon Niese was the hard luck loser despite a solid performance from the Mets’ southpaw. He gave the the team more than they could have hoped for, but was let down by defensive miscues, a terrible decision by Terry [...]

Phillies vs Mets Open Thread: Niese In Good Positioning To Salvage Series
Starting Lineup Ruben Tejada – SS Daniel Murphy – 2B David Wright – 3B John Buck – C Lucas Duda – LF Marlon Byrd – RF Ike Davis – 1B Juan Lagares – CF Jonathon Niese – LHP Game Notes John Buck’s eight April homers tied the club record for a catcher in the month (Mike Piazza in 2001, Todd Hundley in 1996), and are one shy of the team record shared by Carlos Delgado [...]

Today’s Mets DUH Moment: Problem With Bullpen Is Because Of Rotation
Terry Collins believes that part of the problem with the team’s bullpen is because the starting rotation is failing to go deep into games. He says it has been putting an incredible strain on all of his relievers. Ya think? Aside from Matt Harvey and Jon Niese, who combined are averaging over six innings per start, the rest of the rotation has been averaging 4.2 innings per start. Case in point was yesterday afternoon, when [...]

Amazins Lose Third Straight After 9-4 Bashing By The Phils
The New York Mets lost their second straight game to the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 9-4 this afternoon at Citi Field. The loss drops them to 10-12 and they have lost eight of their last eleven games. Shaun Marcum (0-1, 6.75) made his Mets debut and lasted just four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. He tossed 71 pitches, 44 for strikes, and was charged with a wild pitch. Marcum’s [...]

Armed and Ready: Marcum To Start Saturday, Niese On Sunday
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, team officials are saying that lefthanded starter Jon Niese reported no issues and is set to return to the rotation on Sunday against the Phillies. “A little swollen, but it feels good,” Niese describe the injury Thursday morning. Manager Terry Collins said they didn’t want Niese to break his routine, and he remains on target to make his next scheduled start. Niese left Tuesday night’s game against the [...]

Featured Post: Should Pitchers be Fitted with Protection While on the Mound?
Last night, while watching the highlights of the Mets game, I saw the comebacker that struck Jon Niese on the right leg and caused him to leave the game. He was later diagnosed with a contusion, which for the Mets sake is good news. At the moment of impact on his right leg, I thought to myself that something needs to be done to protect the pitchers. The mound to home plate is 60 feet [...]
