What Will Mets Do With J.J. Putz?
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports raises an interesting dilemma that will face the Mets next season when they decide how to handle the 2010 option on J.J. Putz, He writes, The Mets eventually will face an interesting decision on right-hander J.J. Putz, whom they can retain for 2010 by exercising his $9.1 million option. That’s a high price for a setup man, though the Mets might be willing to pay it for one year. They [...]

Wagner To Putz To K-Rod?
Billy Wagner is scheduled to be back in the bullpen by August. If he’s even close to his old self, Jerry Manuel might have the luxury of having three closers — albeit three very high-priced closers, but three closers.

Best Bullpen In The NL, Except For Past 2 Days
Just another loss. Stop overdramatizing! Right? Lest, I incur the wrath of amateur statisticians, let me just say the BP is fantastic, league-leading in fact, but it just so happens they’ve blown two good starting performances in two days. No need to worry, right? I mean, the BP is fixed—the first three weeks of April proved it. Today’s 4-3 loss to the Marlins was unforgivable, and the lineup and bench are to blame, too. Why [...]

My Tuesday Night and Lack of Confidence in This Team
If the 2007 and 2008 seasons did one thing to me as a Mets’ fan, it’s that they have made me believe that if the worst can happen, the worst will happen. I’m not a pessimist by nature, but these Mets have turned me into one.

Game Recap: Mets Shutout Brewers 1-0
The game started out as a classic pitchers duel with both Johan Santana and Yovani Gallardo missing bats and chalking up the zeros. Both the Brewers and Mets were getting baserunners in the early going, but each team’s ace was in full control on this Saturday afternoon, where there was plenty of sunshine, hot dogs, ice cream and even Alyssa Milano who looks as gorgeous as ever. The Mets kept the Brewers scoreless thanks to [...]

Do We Give Ollie Another Turn in the Rotation?
A 7-2 victory was just what the doctor ordered. Yes! When Ron Darling says that a guy “pitched really well tonight” who am I to dispute? Given the weather and lack of great run support, I agree. He looked good and maintained his composure. His slider looked good, and nice to see he’s sporting a new and rather effective changeup. No sense making any predictions given his erratic, “Jekyll-Hyde-esque” performances, but tonight we got the [...]

Mets Notes: Putz Closing, Cora In, Tatis 2B?
Today before the game, Jerry Manuel said that Frankie Rodriguez would get the day off after a tough workload in last nights game. J.J. Putz will be called on to close the game if necessary. I’m thinking that Putz will pick up about 10 saves this season. Luis Castillo is sitting this one out, and Alex Cora makes his first start of the season at second base. Jerry Manuel is open to trying Fernando Tatis [...]
