Adam Rubin is now reporting that J..J. Putz has lost his eighth-inning role to Bobby Parnell. He was informed during a meeting with Jerry Manuel on Wednesday. Manuel hoped the change would be temporary, until Putz rediscovers himself. Putz will be the primary seventh-inning reliever. “Hopefully this is a small, small window for him to get right,” Manuel said. “This is not long term.”
The Morning Grind is the place for Mets fans to sound off on anything and everything! An open thread for ranting and raving about the Mets, completely raw and uncensored! That eighth inning was hard to watch last night. I think we have our new Heilman… or Mota… or you get the idea… After a bad outing on Sunday, J.J. Putz is trotted back out there on Monday and really outdoes himself with one of the most […]
Colin Stephenson of the Star Ledger, wrote an interesting article focusing on yesterday’s eight inning when Jerry Manuel yanked J.J. Putz and replaced him with Bobby Parnell. He writes, Did Manuel have any hesitation to bring in the rookie to relieve the veteran, former closer Putz? “I brought him in, didn’t I?” Manuel snapped when asked the question. Manuel has made no secret about how much love and trust he has for Parnell, the hard-throwing […]
When the Mets made the deal for J.J. Putz this past off season, most of us applauded the move not only because it shuttle Aaron Heilman out of town, but because one look at Putz and you knew we were getting one of the most dominant closers in the American League. So far this season, it hadn’t appeared like the Mets got the J.J. Putz they thought they bargained for. Not only did he suddenly […]
Two days after shelving J.J. Putz for a few days with a bone spur in his right elbow, the Mets got some good news regarding their former closer Billy Wagner who is rehabbing in Florida. Adam Rubin of the Daily News reports, Billy Wagner has returned to Port St. Lucie after a month-long moratorium on throwing off a mound. It looks like his projection to return from Tommy John elbow surgery by August may be on […]
According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, both Carlos Delgado (hip) and J.J. Putz (elbow) have been diagnosed with ailments, but the Mets feel some rest will do the trick and maybe they both can avoid the DL. J.J. Putz is joining Carlos Delgado on the shelf, at least for a few games. Putz had an MRI on Wednesday that revealed inflammation in the back of the elbow, which has caused a bone spur, GM Omar […]
The Mets get set for a big 10 game road trip starting tonight at SanFran, but they have a lot on their minds besides just winning the game. Carlos Delgado – The Mets have scheduled a 4 p.m. conference call for reporters with general manager Omar Minaya to discuss the health of first baseman Carlos Delgado. He’ll most likely head to the disabled list, which could mean the Mets might callup… Fernando Martinez – Martinez […]
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports raises an interesting dilemma that will face the Mets next season when they decide how to handle the 2010 option on J.J. Putz, He writes, The Mets eventually will face an interesting decision on right-hander J.J. Putz, whom they can retain for 2010 by exercising his $9.1 million option. That’s a high price for a setup man, though the Mets might be willing to pay it for one year. They […]
