I wonder if Mike Pelfrey and John Maine would create as much a stir as young Jenrry Mejia if they too simply decided to throw strikes whenever they got on a mound. I also wonder how long it will be before both of them realize it’s now or never if they intend to hang onto their rotation spots come June or July when the trade deadline nears and Mejia is lighting up the radar gun […]
This is the time during Spring Training that all Major League teams start to cut down their rosters, sending some players down to their Minor League affiliates, while others are sent on their way right out of the organization. The funny thing about this process is that there are very few surprises as to who stays and who goes. Sometimes a young player with just a little minor league experience makes such an outstanding impression that […]
The New York Mets have seen darker days than this; the midnight massacre in which Tom Seaver was traded away comes to mind. Another bad time for the Mets and their fan base was in the early 90’s when the Mets had the worst team that money could buy followed by the failure of Generation K. 2002 was a horrible year as the Mets signed a bunch of over the hill players for a lot […]
According to Adam Rubin, of the Daily News, Jerry Manuel does in fact intend to use Jenrry Mejia in short relief appearances. First, Mr. Rubin’s quote, than my outrage. Look for Manuel to get his way with Jenrry Mejia, at least as far as working the 20-year-old righthander as a reliever from this point forward in camp. If Mejia does end up with Double-A Binghamton, it’s likely he won’t be ready to enter the rotation […]
Communication is important and it’s something that the Mets need to work on improving and fast if they want any success in the near future. The last couple of seasons have shown how the lack of communication has hurt this franchise on and off the field. The Mets promised things would be different this year, but it’s clear that not much has changed from a season ago. Carlos Beltran’s surgery is a key example of […]
Last week, manager Jerry Manual and pitching coach Dan Warthen started a mild furor in the Mets blogosphere with comments suggesting that 20-year old Jenrry Mejia could start the season in the Mets bullpen, possibly even as the setup man. According to Brian Costa, Omar Minaya and Mets officials completely shot down any thoughts about Jenrry Mejia starting the season in the bullpen. General manager Omar Minaya said Monday that the plan going into camp […]
Once in a while, I like to sit down, relax, and escape into the world of Mets baseball. It’s a beautiful time to do that right now as Spring Training is heating up, and there’s already so much swirling around Mets camp to consider and debate. I love all the excitement that is being generated by our young Met prospects; Ike Davis, Jenrry Mejia, and Fernando Martinez. As for them, the position battles, and some of the other […]
Jenrry Mejia has been very impressive so far this spring. The twenty year old phenom threw 2 and 1/3 perfect innings for the Mets on Friday in their 4-3 loss to the Marlins. Mejia showed dominating stuff while striking out four. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Jerry Manuel said the following when asked about Mejia’s chances of making the opening day roster, “If we continue to see that, we’ll have to […]
RHP Jenrry Mejia and LHP Jonathan Niese both delivered solid performances today during the Mets 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Marlins. Despite the losing effort, the Mets dugout was all smiles particularly Jerry Manuel who was delighted in what he saw from his two young starting pitchers this afternoon. Niese started and threw 2.2 innings allowing one earned run and striking out five. He relied heavily on a new cut fastball which he picked up from B-Mets pitching […]
