Dwight Gooden was arrested Tuesday morning in NJ and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following an auto accident. Gooden has previously stated he’d been sober the past 3 and a half years. The accident occurred at morning rush hour and according to reports Doc’s son was in the car with him at the time. It’s saddens all Mets and Baseball fans alike and we all wish Doc well and hopefully he’ll someday be […]
Mark McGwire’s admission that he used steroids is both a black eye and a small weight off Major League Baseball’s collective shoulder at the same time. I mean, this wasn’t something we all didn’t know, but at the same time, it’s important for guys like Mac to come clean. After thrilling us with the Great Home Run Chase of 1998, we were owed the truth. I’m looking in your direction, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds, […]
Yeah, it’s been difficult being a Mets fan these last few seasons. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love our team. Here are a few things I am thankful for as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow: David Wright, Carlos Beltran and Johan Santana: Yes, Wright forgot how to hit home runs, and the other two guys missed a big chunk of 2009, but we still have a nice core of all-stars. Some teams don’t. The […]
Before 2009 turned into a nightmare year for the Mets, their fans we were excited. Aaron Heilman was gone, the Mets signed K-Rod and added J.J. Putz to the bullpen and they were opening up a new ballpark. For the final 2 seasons Shea Stadium saw the Mets playoff dreams evaporate on the last day of the season, we were hoping that the demons of Shea were gone with our brand new ball park. Citi […]
There are Hall of Famers and then there are others who put up solid numbers for an entire career. One particular player compiled a 289 career BA and 2715 hits over 22 years. These numbers are not worthy of enshrinement in Cooperstown but he was a solid, consistent player. He was an All-Star and once won the NL Batting crown with a 324 average. As a first baseman, he made only 128 errors in 13,901 […]
The NY Post is reporting that what began early yesterday morning after George Willis of the NY Post outed the Mets for insulting our beloved Doctor K, has ended in a complete about-face by the New York Mets. It all started when George Willis’ column in yesterday’s Post reported that the Mets planned to erase Dwight Gooden’s autograph from a wall at Citi Field — and it induced a public outcry that forced the team […]
The Mets might have gotten the day off today, but the Mets blogosphere keeps churning. On top of the swell of angst building up over the Dwight Gooden autograph debacle, it’s good to see that most bloggers including Matt Cerrone, agree with our point of view this morning and not only keep the autograph, but even add to it as was written here this morning. Gooden may have been onto something, and it would have been cool […]
The Mets simply do not get it. After all the uproar in the media about how Citi Field seems more like a fitting tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers as opposed to the New York Mets, the front office had an opportunity to alleviate some of those concerns and chose not to. George Willis of the NY Post explains: WHEN Dwight “Doc” Gooden attended the Mets’ Opening Day ceremonies at Citi Field last week, he stopped […]
The Mets have have a stellar 30-17 record in Opening Days in their 47 year history. Eleven of those wins came from Hall of Famer Tom “The Franchise” Seaver. What a stud! And let’s not forget Doctor K, Dwight Gooden, who won eight Opening Day contests himself. Maybe his nephew Gary Sheffield will help the Mets win tonight’s opener? Stranger things have happened… With Johan Santana set to take the mound for his second consecutive […]
