mariano-rivera-2006-entering-the-game-sepia-photo-signed-by-anthony-causi

Series Preview This year, for the first time ever, the Mets and Yankees will be playing a four-game series with two games in Queens and two in the Bronx. After complaints from fans and new changes to the schedule this year, Bud Selig was forced to shorten these marquee interleague rivalries from six games to four. That’s probably a good thing for the Mets considering how good the Yankees are this year, and how bad [...]

Less Than Half Of Mets 2013 Payroll Is Contributing To The Team

baseball-money

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York posted an info-graphic from Baseball Tonight that showed a breakdown on this season’s Mets payroll commitments. The $22.3 million includes the $18,125,000 owed to Jason Bay and the $3M for his 2014 buyout. Basically, we have less than half of our total payroll on the field, much like we saw during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Unfortunately, the Mets are no stranger to this phenomenon. It doesn’t really hit you [...]

Featured Post: Examining The Upcoming Free Agent Market For Mets

Shin-Soo Choo

In a recent interview with Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog, ESPN’s Buster Olney talked about the free agent market, specifically how the Mets will have to approach the offseason in order to land some of the best players on the market: For example, take Shin-Soo Choo, who is a free agent this fall. I think the Mets will have to do what the Mariners had had to do, in recent years with position players, and overpay [...]

If Zack Wheeler Is In, Then Who’s Out?

Jeremy Hefner

“Hefner is the Anti-Harvey.” I caught that in Adam Rubin’s Morning Briefing today on ESPN New York. I guess if you go by their won-loss records you could certainly make that claim, but it’s not that simple. With all the latest reports now confirming what we’ve all been waiting for since Carlos Beltran was shipped off almost two years ago, the question now is: If Zack Wheeler is in, then who’s out? Obviously, Jon Niese is safe so the choice will [...]

Jeremy Hefner lasted just four innings and dropped to 0-5 on the season as the Mets took it on the chin in an 8-2 loss to the Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field. Hefner allowed four runs on five hits and three walks and quickly put his team in a hole.
