On 9/9/09, Major League Baseball announced a fan poll contest, called the All-Time 9. What that means is that fans can go to official website of their favorite teams and vote for the best single seasons at a position in team history, with the goal of putting together an all-time lineup. After a quick jaunt to the Mets page, I found quite a nice list of memorable single season stats, some positions deeper than others. […]
Rest easy, Mets fans. It appears David Wright has finally paid his electric bill as his power has been turned back on. Wright had his best offensive game of the season, collecting two home runs (his first multi-homer game since September 14, 2008 against the Braves) and tying his career-high with six RBI. His second home run of the game, a two-out two-run blast off Ryan Madson in the ninth inning, led to a thrilling […]
Even after an impressive 8-3 win over the Rockies, don’t expect me to gloat as much over a win or agonize as much over a loss as I once did throughout the season. Wins and losses don’t mean as much anymore given the Mets current circumstances. Instead, I look for outward signs of hope for next season because the way I see it, the Mets are officially in 2010 mode. There were certainly a couple of […]
At the risk of being called “Captain Obvious” and getting comments of “Gee, ya think?”, I wanted to point out that the Mets are out of the Playoff hunt, and the only thing meaningful about the end of the 2009 Mets season will be playing time for the prospects and maybe to play spoiler. Now that that’s been established and is out of the way: Why is David Wright in Tuesday’s lineup? Why, in fact, […]
Let’s rewind back to Saturday August 15th, 2009. It was a warm, sunny afternoon at Citi Field. The Mets and Giants were in the midst of a pitcher’s duel between two of the best in the game in Johan Santana and Matt Cain. All was going as planned, and both pitchers were in the midst of a shut out until the fourth inning. It was then that disaster struck. After throwing three consecutive fastball’s to […]
The Mets played one heck of a series against the Phillies this weekend, sweeping Philly and securing their lead atopthe NL East, pushing the Phillies back 16.5 games in the division. At this point, don’t be surprised if the Nats don’t pass the current 4th place team. Then their only hope would be to play spoiler. What a series for this Mets team, that is simply on fire. Who would have guessed at the start of the season, Johan Santana would […]
Jeff Francoeur is getting an MRI on his left thumb this morning, after injuring it while making a diving catch the half-inning before he hit into the unassisted triple play Sunday. The thumb swelled Sunday night. Francoeur will be out of the lineup for Monday’s game and let’s hope that’s all he will miss. Francoeur is hitting .305 with 6 homeruns and 24 RBIs with the Mets, leading all active players. He will be […]
You know, I can accept the fact that the injury bug has bitten our Mets hard this season, and that freak accidents have hurt, as has being beaned in the head by opposing pitchers. We’ve learned to accept that we have average to below-average replacements and that the season was basically over before the all-star break. Now we’re biding our time and waiting until next year, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t […]
Blogger’s disclaimer: This is a sequel to a previous post I wrote a few weeks ago. This might look like a humorous piece, but after the events of Saturday’s game surrounding the concussion suffered by David Wright, I’m starting to think the Mets might need to take the contents of this blog into consideration, even if it does involve fictional characters. Read on… After all this time being the sole representative of the so-called “core […]
