The Mets announced their theme and heritage games from April to June this year. Of note, the team is hosting Star Wars night on May 14, where fans can receive a Nolan McLean Mandalorian themed bobblehead. Among the other theme games on the schedule are First Responders Appreciation Night (April 23) and Puerto Rican Heritage Night (June 9).

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced on Friday that Freddy Peralta will be the Mets’ Opening Day starter. This sets up a matchup in the first game of the season between Peralta and Paul Skenes of the Pirates. This will be the fifth straight year the Mets have had a new starter on Opening Day; Clay Holmes took the mound for the Mets’ first game a season ago.

Cal Raleigh homered and Jorge Polanco was clutch again with a pair of RBI singles for Seattle in a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS.

Bryce Miller gave up a leadoff home run to George Springer and nothing more, tossing six innings of one-run ball. The Mariners’ bullpen provided three scoreless innings two days after it threw 10 innings of relief in ALDS Game 5. Toronto was held to two hits.

The Mariners are three wins away from the franchise’s first trip to the World Series.

Rookie Trey Yesavage (1-0, 3.21 ERA) will start Game 2 for Toronto Monday at 5:03 p.m. ET. Logan Gilbert (6-6, 3.44 ERA) goes for Seattle.. The game will air on FOX and FS1.

In the NLCS, Blake Snell (5-4, 2.35 ERA) goes for Los Angeles in Game 1 Monday and Brewers manager Pat Murphy said he will likely go with an opener, then maybe go to Jose Quintana or Quinn Priester for length. First pitch in Milwaukee is at 8:08 p.m. ET on TBS and HBO Max.

The Blue Jays added two former Mets to their ALCS roster. Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt replaced relievers Justin Bruihl and Tommy Nance. Toronto left shortstop Bo Bichette, out since Sept. 6 with a knee injury but hopeful for a playoff return, off the roster. The Mariners added ace Bryan Woo to the roster. The All-Star right-hander hasn’t pitched since Sept. 19 because of pectoral inflammation.

Yesavage said in a news conference prior to Game 1 that his family and girlfriend have been subjected to abuse during the playoffs. He was not specific about what happened.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start Game 2 in Milwaukee and that Shohei Ohtani will start one of the games in Los Angeles. Murphy said Freddy Peralta will start Game 2 for the Brewers.

Kyle Tucker said “we’ll see what happens” when asked about his future. The 28-year-old Cubs outfielder will be a free agent this offseason and could earn a contract in the $400 million range.

Your New York Mets are moving on to the NLCS!

Last night, with the chance to get the series clinching win in Game 4, the Mets were finally able to christen the home team locker room of Citi Field with its first champagne bath. In a miracle season, which saw them start 11 games under .500, the Mets will now face the winner of the Padres and Dodgers series for a spot in the 2024 World Series.

While there have been many gimmicks and streaks from both players and outside entities this season, the one constant has been the Mets’ MVP, Francisco Lindor. In this Game 4 battle against the Philadelphia Phillies, Jose Quintana was able to hold the Phillies to only one run in five solid innings of work, however, the Mets’ offense was not holding up their end of the bargain. Having left the bases loaded in the first and second inning, the Mets’ bats were in danger of doing so again in the sixth, but the backbone of the team would not let it happen. Lindor did it again; the star shortstop smoked a 2-1 fastball over the right-center field wall, and the rest is history. 

The Mets will have a very well-deserved three day break as they await the winner ofGame 5 between the Dodgers and Padres on Friday.

The MLBPA came to a non-exclusive licensing deal with Fanatics, making it the first licensed sportsbook of the MLBPA, per Mike Mazzeo of Sports Business Journal. 

Houston Astros utility man Mauricio Dubón is slated to undergo surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb this week, per Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Dubón played the last month of the season with this tear; the expected recovery time is 6-8 weeks, so he should be good to go for spring training. 

The roof of Tropicana Field was ripped off on Wednesday night by Hurricane Milton. The stadium was being used as a shelter for first responders. Prayers go out to all who are affected by Hurricane Milton.

The 70-year-old, 11-time Gold Glove winner will make the toss to fellow Mets Hall of Famer, John Franco.

Daniel Murphy, the 2015 NLCS MVP, will throw out the first pitch for Game 4. The Mets haven’t played a home game in the NLDS since 2015. That was the year Murphy hit three homers in the NLDS and four in the NLCS. If the Mets win games three and four, it will be the first time they clinch at home since 2000, when New York defeated the San Francisco Giants to advance to the NLCS.

Some other notes the Mets announced for Tuesday’s game:

• All fans will receive a rally towel
• Block parties at both games will start at 1:30 p.m. ET and continue post-game
• Gates open at 2:30 p.m. ET

Wright had been sidelined since April 14, initially with a hamstring injury, then a diagnosis of spinal stenosis, a condition that would ultimately end his career. But his return on Aug. 24, 2015, sparked the Mets’ lineup during their magical year.

Before the Mets barrage in the city of brotherly love, the Phils had raced out to a 3-0 lead off Mets’ starter Jacob deGrom. Philadelphia grabbed the early lead from Mets’ killer Ryan Howard, who launched a first-inning three-run dinger.

Wright led off the top of the second inning against Philadelphia’s starter, Adam Morgan. Wright hit an absolute bomb to left, announcing his return to the lineup in dramatic form.

The Mets, who were in the midst of a battle with the Nationals for first place in the National League East division, still trailed the game 3-1. And that lead widened on a rare night where deGrom struggled against the Phillies.

Cameron Rupp hit a round-tripper to put the Phillies ahead 4-1 in the bottom of the second, and then Dominic Brown hit a three-run shot in the third to give the Phillies a 7-2 lead. It seemed like this was not going to be a the Mets’ night.

But the Mets chipped away before putting down the hammer. Juan Lagares went yard in the third inning to cut the Mets’ deficit to 4-2 and then the runs came crashing down afterward.

In the top of the fourth inning, Wilmer Flores and Travis d’Arnaud went back to back to bring the deficit to 7-5. Then in the top of the fifth, Flores struck again, along with Michael Cuddyer who added a solo shot to jump the Phillies. The three-run homer and solo shot gave the Mets a 9-7 lead, which they never succumbed.

Daniel Murphy got in on the fun in the sixth inning with a two-run homer. D’Arnaud doubled in two runs in the same inning, giving the Mets a 13-7 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Yoenis Cespedes weighed in in the top of the ninth inning, smacking a two-run home run, putting the Mets ahead 16-7 and ending the scoring for the night. The eight home runs were a club record, and winning the game put the Mets up by five and one-half games in the division. Sean Gilmartin recorded the win, pushing his record to 3-1 on the season.

The Mets would go on to sweep the four-game series in Philadelphia, staying red hot after sweeping three from the Rockies in Colorado in their previous series.

Oliver Pérez took the mound for the Mets that night, and tossed seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking three. He was relieved by Aaron Heilman, who finished the game with two innings pitched, no hits or walks allowed, and three strikeouts. Pérez and Heilman both conjure up unpleasant memories for Mets fans, but on this night, they were solid as the Mets were marching toward a run at the postseason.

On offense, David Wright got the Mets going in the bottom of the first inning, clubbing a home run to left-center field, scoring Daniel Murphy, who had reached on an infield single. That was all the combination of Pérez and Heilman would need, though the Mets added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carlos Delgado went yard off Marlins’ starter Ricky Nolasco.

Murphy, who made his major league debut on August 2, 2008, had two hits on the night and played left field. He was replaced for defense by Fernando Tatis. The only other Met with multiple hits was catcher Brian Schneider.

August 8 was just about when the Mets went on a tear under manager Jerry Manuel. On August 13, the New Yorkers moved into a tie with the Phillies for first place, and the Mets held first place until September 16. The Mets briefly saw first place again on September 19 but then fell back into second place, where they would remain for the rest of the season.

Johan Santana pitched an epic game on the season’s second-to-last day to keep the Mets alive in the wildcard race, but the guys from Queens would lose on the season’s final day, in the last game ever played at Shea Stadium. The Milwaukee Brewers took the wild card spot in 2008, and the Mets’ season would end in disappointment for the second year in a row.

The 2024 Mets are similarly chasing a wild card spot (though there are three in each league now). Mets fans hope that the outcome of this chase will be different than that of the 2008 team.

Daniel Murphy defeated Chase Utley in a virtual home run derby in London on Friday. The derby was a promotional event held in Trafalgar Square before this weekend’s series in London between the Mets and Phillies. Legendary home run derby pitcher and former Mets bench coach Dave Jauss pitched to Murphy.

The London Series gets underway Saturday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. ET. Sean Manaea (3-2, 3.63 ERA) and Ranger Suárez (9-1, 1.70) are the starters in game one of the two-game set.

The Mets announced on Friday that Jett Williams underwent right wrist surgery with a recovery time in the 8-10 week range. Williams has only played in 11 games this season and will now miss most of the rest of the season.

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported that Francisco Alvarez‘s return to the big leagues will be slightly delayed, as he had to return to Venezuela for a family matter. Alvarez was expected to join the Mets immediately following their series in London, but the Mets will have to wait at least a few more days.

DiComo also reported that Edwin Díaz, who made a rehab appearance in Brooklyn on Thursday, will pitch again for Brooklyn on Sunday.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reported that Kodai Senga will throw a bullpen session early next week as he continues rehabbing for a return to the major leagues.

Puma also noted that Brett Baty is joining the Mets as the 27th man in London, and Baty is going to begin taking reps at second base as he looks to find a way back onto the major league roster.

The Tigers announced that they traded infielder Buddy Kennedy to the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations. Kennedy has a .714 OPS in Triple-A and a home run in 13 big league plate appearances this year.

Per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays designated Harold Ramírez for assignment to make room for Taylor Walls. Ramírez was a .300 hitter each of the past two seasons and he was especially productive in 2023 with an .813 OPS. However, he’s only batting .268 this year with a .589 OPS, hindered by only three walks and four extra-base hits in 48 games played.

John Schneider, manager of the Blue Jays, told reporters that starter Alek Manoah will undergo UCL surgery later this month and miss the rest of the season. Manoah was having somewhat of a bounceback campaign this year, as he had a 3.70 ERA in five starts.

After a disappointing 10-game homestand against three west coast teams, the Mets turned things around quickly and will fly into London with a sweep in their back pocket. After scoring 14 runs in the first two games of their series against the Nationals, the Mets’ offense did not let up, scoring nine runs in a 9-1 sweep clinching victory over Washington. Starling Marte was scratched from the Met’s lineup on Wednesday with a right knee issue, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. DiComo noted that he received treatment, but the Mets are being cautious. Manager Carlos Mendoza said there is a “low level of concern right now” and he was available off the bench.

Manager Carlos Mendoza told the media that Edwin Díaz will pitch an inning for the Brooklyn Cyclones Thursday.

Mendoza also mentioned that the 27th player in London will either be Brett Baty or catcher Joe Hudson, per Mike Puma of the NY Post. RHP Cole Sulser will also be traveling with the team.

Right-handed relief pitcher Bryce Montes de Oca threw live BP recently and was hitting 96-98 mph, per Mike Mayer of Metsmerized Online. He is continuing to rehab from Tommy John surgery.

On Friday, Andy Martino of SNY announced that the Mets will send a contingent of David Wright, Mike Piazza, Daniel Murphy, and Mookie Wilson to London for the team’s upcoming series in the city with the Phillies. The four Mets icons will serve as ambassadors for the team.

Murphy will also participate in a home run contest in London’s Trafalgar Square with Chase Utley, who will be representing the Phillies.

The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks 10-9 on Friday night. The Diamondbacks got out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Mets scored four right back and held a 10-5 lead entering the ninth inning. Two consecutive home runs allowed by Reed Garrett made it 10-9, but he was able to record the final out and give the Mets their second consecutive win.

The Mets made a flurry of roster moves on Friday. The most notable were Brett Baty and Christian Scott being sent down to Triple-A. Scott’s stay in the minors is expected to be short and is a move to allow the Mets more flexibility with the way their upcoming schedule is structured.

In corresponding moves, the Mets called up Jose Iglesias to give the team another middle infielder, as well as Dedniel Núñez to add another arm to the bullpen.

Additionally, the Mets traded cash considerations to the Yankees for catcher Luis Torrens and designated Omar Narváez for assignment.

With Darryl Strawberry getting his number retired prior to Saturday’s game, Eric Davis, who has played with and against Darryl since the two were kids, will be in attendance.

Shintaro Fujinami, who has spent the 2024 season with the Mets in Triple-A, is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a shoulder injury. The Mets are hopeful that Fujinami can avoid surgery.

The Mets granted Jiman Choi his release from Triple-A Syracuse. Choi had a June 1st opt-out in his contract.

After Kodai Senga‘s injury, which will have him on the IL through at least opening day, there was a lot of chatter on whether the Mets would be looking to add to their rotation. President of baseball operations David Stearns seemed to dismiss the idea right away, as he told the media, “I don’t think so” when asked if they were going to jump back into the free agent market. He also noted, “We’re always gonna be opportunistic and hear what’s out there, but I don’t think it really changes our thought process.”
