Debunking a myth – how the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland A´s have built perennial contenders as small market teams With the Mets caught in a massive financial restructuring and – apparently – unable and / or unwilling to compete for high-end free agents this winter, the Tampa Bay Rays & Oakland A´s are often referred to as models of how you can win with a small payroll. And indeed, both teams have had stunning […]
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with free agent righthander Dan Haren. The deal includes an option for 2015 that vests if Haren throws 180 innings next season. Haren, 33, struggled last season going 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA in 169.2 innings for the Washington Nationals. The veteran starter missed three weeks of the season with shoulder inflammation, but was dominant for the Nats after his return from […]
The offseason started off with much talk about which promised veteran pitcher the Mets would bring in, however several recent comments made by Alderson and the Wilpons suggest that a starting pitcher is the least of their top priorities. Nonetheless, it is still a very essential aspect of how the eventual Opening Day roster will be shaped. There were early speculations surrounding Tim Lincecum (before he resigned with SF, of course), Ubaldo Jimenez, Dan Haren […]
Well, I’ll do my best to put a positive spin on this one, but a loss is a loss no matter what. Zack Wheeler got back on track against the Washington Nationals tonight with seven sharp innings — which is especially impressive considering how well the Nationals have been hitting the ball coming into the series. He gave up eight hits over that span but walked only one — and in fact, allowed his only […]

With the Tragic Number at 2, the “Playoff Push” is in serious jeopardy… The Mets (64-79) lost to the Nationals (75-69) Tuesday night by a score of 6-3. Dillon Gee got the start for New York and quickly put himself in a hole, giving up a run in each of the first three innings, including a pair of home runs. The Mets started slowly against Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann, but got a run in the 4th on […]

Dillon Gee put together quite a start tonight for the New York Mets when he baffled the Nationals over nearly eight innings of work. His only blemishes were two solo home runs given up — one in the bottom of the third to Wilson Ramos and another in the bottom of the eighth to Steve Lombardozzi. He surrendered just six hits overall and walked one batter while striking out three. He was in control for […]
The New York Mets lost their second straight against the Washington Nationals by the score of 4-1 this afternoon in our nation’s capital. Dillon Gee started and was charged with all four runs that scored on two solo home runs by Ian Desmond and Denard Span, and a two-run shot by Bryce Harper. Gee, who had been pitching great, wasn’t so lucky today. He only allowed six hits and walked none, but three of those […]
