Greg Burke has signed a minor league deal with the Colorado Rockies according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New YorkThe righthanded side-armer posted a 5.68 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 31.2 innings pitched with the Mets last season.I prayed for another team to sign him yesterday and it actually happened… :-) Original Post Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports that 17 Mets minor leaguers are now free agents and can sign with any other organization. On Thursday, the MLB Network announced that they’ve hired Ron Darling as an analyst for the 2013-2014 Hot Stove Season. Darling, fresh off his stint as a postseason analyst for TBS, has become a very hot commodity in the broadcast world. His savvy insights and keen intellect serve him well as an analyst and he always comes off looking like the smartest guy in the booth. The two-time Emmy Award winning analyst, has been entertaining Met […]
Second baseman Mark Ellis and left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano became free agents Thursday as the Dodgers declined to exercise their options for next season. The steady-fielding Ellis became expendable when the Dodgers signed Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero to a four-year, $28-million contract. Guerrero is expected to replace Ellis at second base. Ellis, 36 and a Gold Glove finalist, batted .270/.323/.343 last season with six home runs and 48 RBIs. His option was worth $5.75 million and he earned $5.25 in 2013. Capuano, […]
David Wright is the captain of the Mets, and has always been a good company man. But perhaps the time has come for him to look at the bigger picture of what a ¨good company man¨ really is. I would like to see David Wright sit down with the media, or with one trusted writer, and say the following: I´ve been a Mets fan my whole life, and have spent my whole career so far […]
“The Mets aren’t ready to trade most of their team just yet.” writes Dan Martin of the New York Post. That was his takeaway after listening to Mets GM Sandy Alderson respond to comments made by the team’s COO Jeff Wilpon on Tuesday. While there’s no doubt Jeff Wilpon was correct in pointing out the Mets have “definite deficiencies” on the roster heading into the offseason, Alderson said he believed Wilpon was speaking “off the […]
The market for starting pitching is noticeably thin and old. Teams have made it a top priority to lock up their young pitching talent and as a result the only familiar names on the market under the age of 30 are Phil Hughes and John Lannan. The Mets are in the advantageous position to retain the majority of their pitching staff that finished fifth in the league in quality starts. The situation that the Mets […]
Could Michael Cuddyer join his best friend David Wright in Flushing? As we continue our quest for a winning team, we look at acquiring an outfielder. To begin with, it sounds easier than it really is. In July, teams traded their players – Alex Rios, Michael Morse, Justin Maxwell – because their chances of competing were slim. So, you trade today for a shot at tomorrow, theoretically. However, trading a star player is not easy. […]
BIG PAPI, A MET? Yes, it’s true according to an article on WFAN that cites a report from USA Today that calls David Ortiz the Met who got away. The Minnesota Twins offered Ortiz to the Mets for practically a bag of balls in Nov. 2002, according to USA Today. The tidbit was published Friday in a piece by Paul White about the bond between Ortiz and former teammate Torii Hunter, two players facing off in […]
After undergoing surgery in April to repair a tear in the anterior capsule of his left shoulder, Johan Santana has begun a throwing program and is making great progress toward his return to pitching in games. Last week, Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger reported that Santana’s agent, Chris Leible, said a return to the Mets isn’t out of the question for the Mets’ southpaw, but the two sides still haven’t spoken. “He’s not putting pressure on himself,” Leible […]
