In the sixth inning of tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals, Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes slid into second base awkwardly on a stolen base attempt. Reyes immediately grabbed for his ankle, then spent most of the time writhing in pain and in tears until trainers came out and carted him off the field. The stolen base was Reyes’ fifth of the year and he was enjoying a solid start to the season batting .395 on […]

The last time the Mets had a youth movement, it was the in early 80’s and they were coming off a terrible run of losing seasons. The likes of Dwight Gooden, Mookie Wilson, Lenny Dykstra, Wally Backman, and Darryl Strawberry roamed the grounds at Shea Stadium and they quickly made a name for themselves especially after their magical run in 1986 that led them straight to a World Series Championship. Sprinkled in with a group […]
I arrived at Citi Field last night as any eager Met fan after an impressive Opening Day win. But there was one problem: It was absolutely freezing! That hasn’t stopped me before, but based on the wind, I had a feeling I was in store for a low-scoring game. I even turned to my buddy before the game and told him to look at how quickly the flags on the top of the stadium were […]
Matt Harvey was everything the Mets hoped for as he dominated the San Diego Padres, 8-4, in frigid Citi Field tonight. Harvey gave up one hit with ten strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. All San Diego’s runs came against the bullpen, which is expected to be a Mets’ Achilles Heel this season, but not even it could ruin this night. Especially impressive was Harvey did it pitching with temperatures in the low 30s after the […]
Here’s a special treat for everyone. The great Howie Rose was kind enough to give me some of his time to answer a few questions for me and also a few of our readers here on the site and our followers on Twitter at @Metsmerized. (5,015 strong, and growing!) Howie is a tremendous resource of Mets information and nobody knows the history better than he does. Here is what he had to say on some […]
I was able to meet with Matt Harvey on Monday and we had a nice little exchange while he sat in front of his locker thinking about his upcoming start on Wednesday night against the Padres. There is a likable quality to this young man and it has nothing to do with his pitching. He speaks with confidence that doesn’t border arrogance. He has a big time arm without the big time attitude. He’s attentive to your questions, and […]
The attendance for Opening Day at Citi Field was 41,053 and it was a complete sellout. The team later announced that another 1,000 tickets on top of that were given away to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Newsday reports that it was the 15th straight year the Mets sold out their home opener. You could see plenty of empty seats once the pre-game ceremonies got underway, but by the end of the second inning the place […]
Dominating Grapefruit League play wasn’t enough to keep Travis d’Arnaud with the big league team, and he has been optioned to minor league camp this evening. After batting .343 this spring against major league competition, there’s no denying that d’Arnaud is ready to call Citi Field his home. However, it looks like the Mets were not willing to lose that extra year of control in order to have d’Arnaud break camp with the team. Now the […]
