Chris Carter approaches spring training more like boot camp, but his intense work habits just might earn him an opening day roster spot with the New York Mets. The 27-year-old first baseman/outfielder often is one of the first to arrive each day in camp and among the last to leave, and the hard work has paid off in the form of a .474 batting average this spring. Carter was part of the trade that sent […]
Welcome to Club Carter, Mets fans. Where the drinks are free and you get all the Kool-aid you can drink. I am still advocating that Carter makes the team. Whether he is given the starting job or a bench spot is not as clear cut in my mind, but I definitely think he should be on this team. Not many give credence to his spring stats, but his brand of baseball makes it hard to […]
Mike Pelfrey had another rough outing today as the Washington Nationals beat the Mets 7-5. Pelfrey allowed four home runs giving up two homers each to Ryan Zimmerman and Josh Willingham. Zimmerman hit a booming solo shot in the first and a two-run shot in the fifth, while Willingham had a solo shot in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth. Pelfrey has now allowed 22 hits and 12 earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched, […]
Okay so it’s almost afternoon, but Afternoon Grind doesn’t have that same ring to it… Making The Grade According to Adam Rubin, Bobby Parnell and/or Sean Green could be in at least a little trouble in making the club. Or at least in a competition. If Jenrry Mejia and/or Hisanori Takahashi sneaks into the bullpen, one or two reliever incumbents could find themselves in the minors … or traded. This is the best part of […]
According to Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post, the Mets and Red Sox completed the Billy Wagner trade by acquiring AAA OF Chris Carter and Single-A 1B Eddie Lora. Carter was immediately added to the Mets’ 40-man roster, which brings the current number to 38. Carter, 26, is a career minor leaguer who has consistently hit well over .300 at Class AAA. This season, he hit .294 with 16 homers for Pawtucket. Originally a first baseman, […]
The word around baseball is that Chris Carter, whom the Mets were allegedly going to receive as the player-to-be-named-later in the Billy Wagner trade has been designated for assignment. This is significant because if you can recall, Carter was previously placed on waivers over the summer with the intent of shipping him to the Mets. However, the Yankees claimed him in an effort to cause roster management issues for the division-rival Red Sox. Being that […]
During the trade deadline, Omar Minaya sent Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for a couple of prospects. Billy Wagner is projected to be a Class A free agent, and would have netted the Mets two first round draft picks next June by offering him arbitration which Wagner would have certainly declined. One of the prospects the Mets got was AAA first baseman, Chris Carter. Carter was then placed on waivers by the Red Sox, but was pulled […]
The Boston Herald is reporting that the Mets will receive 1B/OF Chris Carter in the deal that sent Billy Wagner to Boston. Carter, 26, is a career minor leaguer who has had quite a bit of success at the Class AAA level. In every season prior to this year Carter has hit well over .300 at the Class AAA level. So far this year, Carter has compiled a .279 average with 14 home runs and […]
