Not so much a recap this morning, but instead an anatomy of one single at-bat… An at-bat that almost was… Last night, with the Mets down 4-2 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Carlos Beltran made his way from the batting circle to the plate. “Could this really be happening?”, I thought to myself. I could feel myself getting antsy as I watched Beltran dig his foot into the dirt, wipe his brow […]
Carlos Beltran returns to the Mets starting lineup tonight for the first time in more than two months, reports Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. While his return will not help the Mets avoid missing the playoffs for the third straight year, Beltran’s return should bring some legitimacy to the Mets lineup. Prior to his injury, Beltran was tearing it up, hitting at a .336 clip with 8 home runs and 40 RBIs. Even […]
Last night Carlos Beltran returned from a “bone bruise,” on his knee in a rehab start for the Brooklyn Cyclones. I keep hearing, and reading people asking why he is even trying right now. My opinion, he is auditioning to prove he is healthy enough to garner attention on the trading market this winter in Indianapolis (site of the Winter Meetings). Here’s the thing, at 32 years old, Beltran is still in my opinion the […]
Carlos Beltran stormed out of the gates quickly this year, leading the National League in hitting for a good portion of the first few months of the season. Then he started feeling some pain in his right knee but continued to play through it. Finally, on June 22, the pain became too much for him to play at the level he’s capable of playing. Beltran was placed on the disabled list in the hopes that […]
While we all know how the Mets have suffered what has basically amounted to season-ending injuries for several players, among them arguably our two top sluggers in Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado, I don’t think any of us expected this power outage to be legendary. Because that’s what this is bordering on. The Mets have 76 home runs through 132 games, putting them on pace for 93, their lowest total since 1992 when Bobby Bonilla […]
Going into the 2009 season hopes were high for the Mets. Most people believed that once the Mets signed Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez that all the problems from last year were solved. Last year the bullpen killed us in our race to the playoff’s but that was not the only reason why missed out of the playoff’s. The offense was not getting it done towards the end of last season, remember in the last 3 game […]
Despite some earlier rumors that suggested Carlos Beltran’s season may be over, he continues to work toward a September return. I don’t know exactly what purpose his return will serve at this point in time, but it would be nice to see him playing centerfield and providing some additional pop to our anemic lineup. Beltran took another step in his recovery from a right knee injury when he ran the bases this weekend in Port St. Lucie. He is expected […]
The Mets played one heck of a series against the Phillies this weekend, sweeping Philly and securing their lead atopthe NL East, pushing the Phillies back 16.5 games in the division. At this point, don’t be surprised if the Nats don’t pass the current 4th place team. Then their only hope would be to play spoiler. What a series for this Mets team, that is simply on fire. Who would have guessed at the start of the season, Johan Santana would […]
You know, I can accept the fact that the injury bug has bitten our Mets hard this season, and that freak accidents have hurt, as has being beaned in the head by opposing pitchers. We’ve learned to accept that we have average to below-average replacements and that the season was basically over before the all-star break. Now we’re biding our time and waiting until next year, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t […]
