Brian Costa of the Star-Ledger, is reporting that the Mets and Marlins are close to announcing that they will play a three-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico, next season. This is according to another report in the Sun-Sentinel. The series was originally scheduled to be played in Miami from June 28-30. It will instead be held at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, which was host to the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009. The stadium [...]
I have to be honest, I didn’t think GM Omar Minaya had it in him to land Jason Bay. I was ready to chalk up the 2010 season to rebuilding and maybe finishing in fourth place, but Minaya’s pursuit and subsequent landing of Bay to play left field for the Mets and possibly bat cleanup has changed my outlook of this team. Not entirely, of course, but this is a solid move that injects a [...]
Last week Mike Vaccaro post a blog on the New York Post website that you can read right here saying that ticket agents from the Mets are questioning the loyalty of fans who have not yet renewed their season tickets for the 2010 season. I did get a phone call asking me if I was planning on buying the ticket package, but my loyalty to the team was not questioned by that particular agent, having [...]
Like all loyal and lifetime New York Mets Fans 2009 will certainly go down in Mets history as the most injury plagued season in their entire 48 seasons of National League play. Everybody knows that every member of “The Core” players were down for various amounts of time during the season and if the core played together for ten games all season long that would probably be an exaggeration. Dirt was thrown at everybody from [...]
Yesterday, the Mets set aside all the drama of their not-so-hot-stove season for a good cause at their Annual Mets Holiday Party. Jeff Francoeur played the part of St. Nick and he and his fellow Mets elves brought some much needed joy and smiles to school children from all five boros of the city. By all accounts it was a grand time for everyone.. Well almost everyone… Omar Minaya was the target of most of the beat writers and reporters who [...]
Yeah, it’s been difficult being a Mets fan these last few seasons. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love our team. Here are a few things I am thankful for as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow: David Wright, Carlos Beltran and Johan Santana: Yes, Wright forgot how to hit home runs, and the other two guys missed a big chunk of 2009, but we still have a nice core of all-stars. Some teams don’t. The [...]
Winter season is fast approaching. Soon, most Mets fans living in the New York metropolitan area will be dealing with bone-chilling temperatures, exorbitant heating bills and slush that chews up and spits out the best winter boots. So this is as good a time as any to think warm thoughts. Think about palm trees swaying in the breeze as you achieve the perfect tan with a cool drink by your side on a pristine beach. [...]
It’s not always easy to find things to write about this time of year other than hot stove talk and trade/free agent rumors. So I decided to look at some of the final stats from 2009. You know, those dismal numbers that contributed to one of the worst seasons the Mets have had in years. And while we all know too well about the power outage that had Daniel Murphy lead the team with 12 [...]
Carlos Beltran has always been a soft-spoken leader, preferring to lead by example rather than through rah-rah histrionics. Throughout his career, he has been a player that has done everything well on the field. He can hit for average (.325 in 2009, career .283 hitter), hit for power (franchise record-tying 41 HR in 2006), steal bases (286 SB in his career) and play a Gold Glove caliber center field. He lets his talent do the [...]
On Sunday, I was surprised to read an article from Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald which started out as a knock on Red Sox centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who has fallen out of his good graces because of his UZR rating. His column takes a surprising twist when he suggests that Carlos Beltran would be a likely trade target for the Bosox in the off season. Naturally, this is nothing more than a sports columnist penning [...]
