Despite a late inning rally, the Mets fall to the Phils 6-5 and lose the series. Dickey had his worst start this season only going three innings and giving up six runs. The Mets bullpen had a great day not giving up any runs after Dickey was pulled. Pagan, Thole, and Reyes all had a multiple hit game, yet Beltran and Wright combined for six strikeouts in the game. The Mets haven’t won back-to-back games […]
The Mets offense goes back to being silent as they lose game three of the series, 3-2 in the thirteenth inning on a James Loney walk-off homerun. The game became a battle of the bullpens as both pitchers only went five innings each but the game ends with James Loney, who hit his first career walk-off homer off of Oliver Perez in the 13th inning. Game Summary Mike Pelfrey continues to have rough starts as […]
While rumors of the Mets acquiring a top line starter still abound – Cliff Lee , Roy Oswalt and the rest of the 2010 cadre of possible trade deadline pickups – the acquisition of a reliever may be just as imperative on Omar Minaya’s wish list. As of today the Mets have the 11th best bullpen ERA in the majors at 3.67. Unfortunately we tend to remember the implosions such as Francisco Rodriguez’ recent meltdown […]
Cliff Lee is one of the best pitchers in the game. Last year’s performance in the World Series was spectacular. Lee was brilliant against one of the best if not the best lineup in the game in 2 starts. The two games that the Phillies won were Lee’s in the Fall Classic. It’s now 2010 and Cliff Lee is now a member of the Seattle Mariners. Lee is having an amazing first half for Seattle. […]
In today’s New York Post, Mike Puma reports that Jerry Manuel is desperate for another arm in his bullpen and that he plans to address the matter with GM Omar Minaya. “Manager Jerry Manuel planned to speak with team brass last night about the possibility of adding a seventh reliever, after the Mets emptied their bullpen yesterday in a 9-5 victory over the Nationals.” Whether you think Jerry Manuel has done a poor job of handling […]
Look in the dugout during a Mets game. If you see Jose Reyes smiling, laughing and dancing, you know the Mets are winning and contending. If you see him anyway else, they are probably losing. We saw it happen in 2006. Reyes led the Mets with 194 hits, batting .300. He hit 37 doubles, 19 triples and 16 home runs. Oh, and least I forget he stole 64 bases. The end result was 97 wins […]
The only good thing about the Mets bullpen is that it has not been needed over the last two weeks. The starting pitching and the offense have been strong enough to carry the team. But here’s my advice to Omar Minaya: Do something quickly about the Mets pathetic bullpen. Otherwise it could very well turn out to be the downfall as the pennant races heat up this summer. Elmer Dessens of all people has inherited, […]
In a new post to his blog, Adam Rubin of the Daily News, analyzes the Mets spring training battles and speculates on the potential Opening Day roster. Regarding the rotation, Adam believes that Jon Niese is still the front-runner to be the team’s fifth starter and writes, The smart money still has Jon Niese claiming the final slot in the rotation over Fernando Nieve, with Hisanori Takahashi only on the fringe of that race, despite the Japanese lefthander slated for a pair of Grapefruit […]
We all know the Mets added a power bat in Jason Bay, are still dealing with injuries/medical issues to key players like Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran, and have huge holes in the starting rotation. But I haven’t heard as much talk about the bullpen. A year ago, almost to the day, I wrote a blog on this site about how the Mets’ revamped bullpen, a terrible weakness in 2008, would pile up K’s and […]
