The Brooklyn Cyclones are inching closer to the .500 mark as the team notched its third straight win with a 4-3 victory over the Lowell Spinners – the Single-A short season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox – Monday night at MCU Park in Coney Island. It took a late eighth-inning comeback, but the Cyclones were able to scratch out the win, moving them to 9-12 on the season. Brooklyn was able to get the […]
Mets Hall of Famer John Franco strikes a pose with Brooklyn Cyclones lefthander John Mincone. Randy Medina from Read the Apple with another one of his awesome creations. Who the heck is that? Oh… Well these two are still together and going strong…. And finally a word from the Mookster who holds the world’s tiniest baseball…
It really should have been Johan Santana dangling left arm night based on his injury history with the Mets, but instead Wednesday night at MCU Park in Coney Island was Johan Santana bobblehead night. And the Brooklyn Cyclones did not disappoint, as the team scratched out a 2-1 victory over the Staten Island Yankees in 10 innings to improve to 6-11 on the year. Brooklyn had lost four straight games and seven of their last […]
Extra-inning games seemed to be the theme of the organization Monday night. The big club won a crazy 13-inning affair over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field, but the Brooklyn Cyclones dropped a 12-inning contest to the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park in Coney Island. The Cyclones’ 8-7 loss was a wild affair, especially since it was only supposed to be a seven-inning game as part of a doubleheader against the Yankees. The first […]
Cyclones’ lefty reliever John Mincone is back in Brooklyn this summer, and already he’s off to a similar start as last year’s All-Star campaign. He maybe was a candidate to start the year at a higher level of the minors, but he suffered a bout of tendinitis that delayed his offseason conditioning. He’s settled in as the Cyclones’ closer this year, and he’s been unhittable – striking out seven batters in 3.2 innings of work. […]
Former Mets’ star Lee Mazzilli made the borough of Brooklyn his stomping grounds growing up. Abraham Lincoln H.S. in Coney Island was his home until the Mets drafted him right out of high school in 1973. Located just a mile and half from Lincoln down Ocean Parkway and on Surf Avenue is MCU Park. Though the stadium wasn’t there during Mazzilli’s playing days, he now has a special connection to the park. Lee’s son, L.J. […]
It took 13 innings Sunday evening, but the Brooklyn Cyclones moved back to the .500 mark (3-3) with a 4-3 victory over the previously undefeated Hudson Valley Renegades, the short season Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Cyclones’ right fielder James Roche delivered the deciding two-out RBI walkoff single to left center in the bottom of the 13th to give Brooklyn the win. The victory comes a day after the Cyclones rallied from down […]
When you’re a kid from Louisiana, New York must seem like another universe. People from New York often think that Brooklyn is a completely different universe. So imagine being Mets’ 2012 first-round draft-pick Gavin Cecchini. Not only is he a Louisiana boy playing in New York, but he’s also getting a close up taste of Brooklyn as the Cyclones’ starting shortstop. But Cecchini said that it really hasn’t been too much of a culture shock, […]
Many of the old-time baseball clichés are often true, and that’s why we keep using them. In Friday’s contest between the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Aberdeen Ironbirds, “good things happened when the leadoff man got on base.” The Ironbirds – the Single-A short-season affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles – had leadoff hits in four of the first five innings to take a 2-0 lead, but the Cyclones caught fire late en route to a 4-2 […]
