My Personal Attempt To Sabotage The All-Star Game

721_-mlb_all-star_game-primary-2013

It’s that time of the year again. Seven weeks into the season and we are being asked to vote for the 2013 All-Stars. This week Cincinnati came to town. Now, imagine for a moment, if as you walked into Citi Field you were handed a ballot where you could choose which Reds you would want playing that day. Safe to say, we Mets fans would probably decide that Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce [...]

LaRussa Says Matt Cain, Not R.A. Dickey, Will Start All-Star Game

r.a. dickey tipping cap citi field

It must be great to be a San Francisco Giants fan. Not only did a late push of fan votes elect three starting position players (Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera) to the NL lineup, but now the Giants will also have Matt Cain as the starting pitcher. John Harper of the New York Daily News tweeted at 9:23 a.m. that “Source says Dickey is not starting All-Star Game. Will be Cain vs. Verlander.” [...]

Welcome To The 2011 MLB “Some”-Star Game

Tonight, when you get ready to watch the All-Star Game with your cold drink in hand and bowl of chips about to tip over onto the carpet, you’ll probably be taken back to your childhood, when you used to watch players such as Gary Carter, Cal Ripken, Jr., Ozzie Smith and other future Hall of Famers take the field in a matchup of the best baseball players in the majors. But this year, instead of [...]

Was Dillon Gee An All-Star Snub?

This weekend, the rosters for the 82nd annual MLB All-Star Game were announced. As we all know, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran will be representing the Mets in this year’s game—played next Tuesday night at Chase Field in Arizona. However, the lingering question is should Reyes and Beltran be joined by one of their teammates: Dillon Gee? Despite his great start to this season, the answer to the preceding question is “No.” Gee has been [...]

Let’s Do This Thing

The All-Star game is behind us, and I’d like to thank Brian McCann for the game-winning hit that will give the Mets home field advantage in the World Series. You think that’s far-fetched?  Well, it’s not.  The Mets are just 4 games back of Atlanta and have a lot to be optimistic about.  Carlos Beltran returns tomorrow in San Fran, and a lot has gone right for the Mets without him. That’s not to say [...]

National Treasure – NL Ends Drought With 3-1 Victory

Finally, after 13 years, the National League ended their winless drought and beat the American League 3-1 in last night’s All-Star Game. The Brave’s Brian McCann had the biggest hit of the night when he stroked a three-run double off of White Sox’ reliever Matt Thornton in the seventh inning. The long drive into the right field corner proved to be the turning point of the game and earned  McCann the game’s Most Valuable Player honor. Leading 3-1 going into the ninth, things [...]

Bored With the All Star Game

Tuesday night will be baseball’s annual All Star Game, from Bush Stadium in St. Louis Missouri. St. Louis is a great baseball town, and the Cardinals are one of Major League Baseball’s most historic and great baseball teams. Having said that, I have no interest at all in the All Star Game. This morning I was watching the news on the FOX station here in New York, and the sports anchor referred to the All [...]

Oh, Snap! Werth Replaces Beltran On All-Star Roster

According to mlb.com, Phillies’ outfielder Jayson Werth has been added to the National League All-Star team to replace injured Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran. Werth will join his fellow Phillie outfielders Raul Ibañez and Shane Victorino in St. Louis for the All-Star festivities.  Ibañez was voted in by the fans as a starter while Victorino made the team this week as the winner of the Sprint Final Vote.  Werth enters tonight’s action with a .268 batting [...]

Make Room For One More At The All-Star Table

According to mlb.com, Major League Baseball will be expanding the rosters for this year’s All-Star Game from 32 to 33 players.  The extra player added will be a pitcher, allowing for each league to have 13 pitchers at its disposal.  This move was deemed necessary because last year’s Midsummer Classic lasted 15 innings, prompting both managers to use all of their available pitchers.  The last time rosters were expanded was in 2003.  That move was [...]
