Kennedy, 34, is best known for his years with the Angels. In 2002, he was the American League Championship Series MVP after hitting three home runs against the Twins in Game 5.

Kennedy is as versatile as they come, being able to play all four infield positions as well as the outfield.

The Mets had shown some interest earlier this offseason before deciding to re-sign Alex Cora instead.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it will be interesting to see what he gets in comparison to the $2MM the Mets gave Cora.

Update 10:20 AM: Kennedy’s deal will pay him $1.25 million dollars with a club option for a second year at $2M. So the Mets paid significantly more for Cora for 2010… Nice… Thanks to NCMetFan for the tip.

The Nats wasted no time in grabbing Kennedy after being rebuffed by Orlando Hudson.

Again, the Mets continue to operate with both hands tied behind their back as long as Castillo remains a Met.

That said, I like Kennedy and he’d be an above average option in the number two spot of the lineup. He batted .304 with a .364 OBP against right handed hitters.
