With Saturday’s loss, the Mets have clinched themselves a protected draft pick. However, it is starting to seem like this will be irrelevant. Reports on Friday indicated that the Mets do not plan on pursuing any of the top free agents, with the possible exception of Shin-Soo Choo, who will likely cost more than what the Mets seem ready to offer. The Mets were horrible this season, so you don’t need anything but common sense […]
Updating this Fan Shot by by Long Suffering Met Fan with this breaking news… Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com is reporting that Cuban first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu has officially been declared a free agent and is now eligible to sign with any Major League club. MLB Trade Rumors adds that Abreu “promises to become one of the most sought-after right-handed bats” on the free agent market. The San Francisco Giants are considered to be the heavy […]
Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson joined the SNY telecast during tonight’s Mets vs. Brewers game and touched on a wide variety of topics with Gary, Keith and Ron including this season, the upcoming winter, Travis d’Arnaud among others. 2013 Season Alderson stated that he was “generally disappointed” with the season and is “not happy” but that this year is “something to build on”. Alderson says he wants the ”home record to improve substantially” next year, […]
Being a baseball fan brings out the best, and sometimes the worst in people of all walks of life. Being a fan of a bad baseball team often brings magnifies those characteristics. I’m not talking about terrible things like racism, sexism, or God forbid acts of violence like we saw recently with the Giants and Dodgers. Those thoughts, whether they are an unfounded accusation or an actual action are wrong no matter the situation. They […]
Lucas Duda fully understands the lay of the land in Flushing these days, and knows his hold on an everyday job at first base in 2014 is tenuous at best. While he feels he has done enough to be considered as an every-day player by Sandy Alderson, he understands the decision ultimately lies in the hands of his GM. “I really don’t have a say in the matter,” Duda told Mike Kerwick of the Bergen Record. […]
According to Adam Rubin on Twitter, Mets closer Bobby Parnell has lost 30 pounds since he began suffering from the herniated disk. However, Collins also added that team doctors believe that Parnell will be ready to go by Spring Training. The hard-throwing righthander had surgery to repair the herniated disk in his neck on September 10. The procedure was performed by renowned spinal surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins in California who has treated more professional athletes with spinal injuries […]
Who’s ready for another Mets offseason? Well like it or not, here it comes. This particular offseason has already got me feeling a little edgy compared to past ones since Sandy Alderson took the reins. I wasn’t really expecting much before and I knew we were dismantling and rebuilding even though Sandy would never say as much. However, this is the offseason I’ve been waiting for… This is the one where we’ve been conditioned to […]
After last night’s 3-2 loss to the Reds, the Mets remain in a four-way tie for the eighth worst record. The teams with the 10 worst records get their first round picks protected in the 2014 Draft. If it comes down to a tie breaker to determine the ten worst teams, the higher draft pick goes to the team that finished with a lower winning percentage in the previous season. Regardless if the pick is protected or […]
It was the most important game of the year. If the Mets wanted to make the post-season they needed to win. There was no tomorrow. I prepared myself: A Coke, a handful of pretzels, a fresh pack of cigarettes, my Mets cap, my lucky Mets shirt. And before I even got comfortable, it was over. A lead-off walk, a single, another single, a double, yet another single, another walk, still another base hit, a hit batsmen just […]
