Will Maine He Be A Met In 2010?

This weekend we reported on how well John Maine performed in his rehab start for Port St. Lucie. He pitched four shutout innings while allowing just two hits, one walk, and striking out six. The news was even better when Maine said that he experienced no pain the next day. “It’s a little tight but it’s just getting back to normal,” Maine said when asked how he felt. “But as of now, no pain. I didn’t [...]

It’s All Coming Apart For Citi Field

According to a report that appeared in the NY Post yesterday, the Mets’ new $850 million stadium is starting to break down at an alarming rate. Apparently, even though Citi Field is barely one season old, it has seen more than it’s fair share of breakdowns, leaks, and a myriad of other problems which recently included water damage to several luxury suites — including comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s. Sources said other problems have turned Mets maintenance [...]

Murphy Lays Down The Law; Mets Win 4-2

It was the Murph and Pelf Show at Citi Field on Sunday as Daniel Murphy provided the offense and Mike Pelfrey gave the Mets (and himself) a much-needed strong pitching performance.  The one-two punch lifted the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Cubs and gave them their first series victory in five weeks. The game started out with Mike Pelfrey and Cubs’ pitcher Randy Wells trading quick innings and economizing their pitch counts.  It [...]

Should “The Fab Three” Stay Or Should They Go?

This season the Mets have seen many new additions to their big league roster in order to compensate for their injured stars. Some of these roles have been occupied by career minor leaguers, while others have been filled by seasoned veterans, who have shuttled between teams throughout their career. In particular the starting pitching staff has been decimated by injuries. Three of the team’s top pitchers (Santana, Maine and Perez) are all currently on the [...]

John Maine Solid In St. Lucie

John Maine took a big step toward his return to the Mets today in his rehab start at Port St. Lucie. Pretty impressive outing even if he was facing Single-A competition. I was actually hoping that the Mets would shut him down, but I guess there’s nothing wrong with letting him air it out and seeing if that shoulder is ok. There are some reports circulating that suggest the Mets will not offer John Maine [...]

There Goes The Streak! Mets Fall To Cubs 5-3

For the first three innings of the game on a beautiful day for baseball, Nelson Figueroa appeared to be on his way to another stellar performance against the Cubs at Citi Field on Saturday.  He was continuing his amazing strikeout run that he began last week when he fanned a career-high 10 batters at Wrigley Field.  Then Figueroa faced the Cubs hitters for a second time through the order and he was done in by [...]

Billy Wagner Deal Officially Gets Worse

During the trade deadline, Omar Minaya sent Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for a couple of prospects. Billy Wagner is projected to be a Class A free agent, and would have netted the Mets two first round draft picks next June by offering him arbitration which Wagner would have certainly declined. One of the prospects the Mets got was AAA first baseman, Chris Carter. Carter was then placed on waivers by the Red Sox, but was pulled [...]

Keep Be-Lee-ving

One of the holes the Mets need to fill for the 2010 season is first base, Daniel Murphy was named the everyday first baseman after Carlos Delgado got injured. Murphy has done fairly well as a replacement with good defense and an average bat. First base is usually a position for power hitters and Murphy will not likely reach a dozen homeruns. Also Delgado’s contract will be ending this season and has a 12 million dollar [...]
