Give Howard Johnson The Boot

As we all know the Mets cannot do anything right this year.  One of their biggest weaknesses has been hitting home runs.  Playing in Citi Field does not make it any easier. With under 40 games left in this dreadful year, the Mets have just passed Barry Bonds on the home run list.  In 2001, as everyone knows Barry Bonds broke a major league record by hitting 73 home runs in one year.  Currently the [...]

NL East Report

Atlanta Braves: (6-4; -7) The Atlanta Braves took two of three from the Marlins and will face the San Diego Padres this week. Of note, Tim Hudson make a rehab start over the weekend in AAA. His scheduled opponent would have been Jake Peavy of the White Sox AAA affiliate, but Peavy was pushed a day back. Anyway, Hudson could be close to returning, as he threw 89 pitches in 6 innings of work. Florida [...]

Mets Have Had Their “Phil”; Lose Again 6-2

The Mets played a Monday matinee at Citi Field today and Bobby Parnell pitched well…to every hitter not named Ryan Howard. Howard hit two home runs off Parnell to score the first five runs of the game for the Phillies.  That was all the offense they needed as they were able to defeat the Mets by the final score of 6-2.  The loss was the third straight for the Mets to the Phillies after winning [...]

Pelfrey, the $15 Million Man?

I recently wrote an article about the reasons why Derek Lowe would not have been a wise investment, paired with why Oliver Perez was the best possible option if the Mets wanted to sign a free agent. It doesn’t mean Perez was a good signing, it means Lowe for 60 mil/4 years would have been a WORSE signing. Perez’s contract simply was the lesser of two evils. Unless somebody can give me a reasonable argument [...]

Santana To Miss Scheduled Start Tomorrow Night

As if the news that Jeff Francoeur tore a ligament in his thumb after making a spectacular catch yesterday weren’t bad enough, Jerry Manuel just announced during the post game conference that Johan Santana has been experiencing “some discomfort” in his left pitching elbow. Due to this, Santana will not make his start tomorrow against the Florida Marlins. No word yet on who will make the start in his place. It is not time to panic [...]

Olney: Chances Wagner Is Traded Are Under 50/50

In an appearance today on ESPN’s SportsCenter, MLB Analyst, Buster Olney, discussed the potential trade between the Mets and the Red Sox involving reliever Billy Wagner. In his appearance Olney stated that the chances of a deal happening are below 50 percent. There are numerous factors that would support Olney’s claim. One of these factors is that there are some concerns regarding the health of Wagner’s surgically repaired shoulder. Prior to yesterday afternoon’s game, Wagner [...]

MetsMerized Player Of The Week! 8/16-8/23

I don’t like Shane Victorino, and I don’t like unassisted game-ending triple plays. I also don’t like the fact that although I continue to say I can believe in Oliver Perez, he continues to give me every reason not to. For anyone who was wondering, Perez’s contract ends in about 798 days. Although the week could’ve been worse, I’m convinced I have seen the Mets lose in every conceivable way known to man. However, there’s [...]

Jump Off the Lowe Train. Please.

As somebody who thinks Omar Minaya (along with Jerry Manuel) need to be fired so that this franchise can move forward and start with a fresh slate, I am however, a rare commodity. I think the signing of Oliver Perez is NOT one that should cost Minaya his job. I read it on this site, other sites, and hear it on talk radio from fans. To quote directly from a fan post today on this [...]

Francoeur To Get An MRI

Jeff Francoeur is getting an MRI on his left thumb this morning, after injuring it while making a diving catch the half-inning before he hit into the unassisted triple play Sunday. The thumb swelled Sunday night. Francoeur will be out of the lineup for Monday’s game and let’s hope that’s all he will miss. Francoeur is hitting .305 with 6 homeruns and 24 RBIs with the Mets, leading all active players. He will be [...]

Oh What A Night It Was!

On Saturday night the Mets paid tribute to the 1969 Miracle Mets. While the 2009 Mets season will be a season we would like to forget, the Mets management did get one thing right, that was the fantastic, emotional and classy tribute given to these heroes of forty years ago. I was out at CitiField Saturday night. I seated in the very last row of seats in the stadium, but the large scoreboard afforded everyone [...]
