Where Does Dan Murphy Fit In The Long Term?
Dan Murphy is a good kid and a hard worker, as Jerry Manuel said yesterday, “He has done everything we have asked of him”. His performance at the plate has been solid and he currently wields a .320 average to go with his team leading 12 runs scored. As a table setter and number two hitter, you can’t ask for much more from a player in his first full season in the majors. So what’s [...]

The Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time Players
Losing 6-4 to the Cards isn’t the story. It’s how the Mets lost that’s darkening every fans mood. How can so much badly played baseball be packed into 9 innings! Perez returned to his bad self. Four decent innings, and that’s all she wrote. Loss of control, and then batting practice. Yadier owns us. We had a 4-0 lead that lasted till the fifth; we also had 10 hits till that point, and then added [...]

Beltran Batting Third, Wright Fifth… Finally
UPDATE: It looks like MetsBlog and Adam Rubin accidentaly posted the wrong lineups today, but I’m gonna keep this blog going just for a good argument and debate. MetsBlog and Adam Rubin are reporting that Carlos Beltran will be batting third tonight and David Wright drops down to the fifth spot in the lineup. Let me be the first to applaud this move and I hope it’s not just a temporary move either. For a [...]

4/21 Minor League Report! Veloz, Havens!
Buffalo 7, Scranton 3 The Bisons used a 4 run 8th to erase a 3-2 deficit and hand the Yankees their first loss of the season. Nick Evans nightmare season, however, continued, as he went 0 for 4 with another pair of Ks, he’s now struck out 15 times in 45 ABs, and is rocking a .111 average and a sub .640 OPS. Ouch. Buffalo had just 5 hits on the game, but drew 6 [...]

Why Are The Mets Making Life Miserable For Church?
I think everyone understands what signing Gary Sheffield was going to mean for Ryan Church. Obviously based on how much Sheffield has accomplished in his career, we all knew it would lead to some complications in terms of finding playing time for everyone. That said, it was still tough to see one of our hottest hitters riding the bench last weekend and at some point I believe it’s going to come to a boiling point. [...]

Forget LOB, Where’s The Stolen Bases?
For the last three seasons we’ve been spoiled by the speed of Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and David Wright. The Mets were among the league leaders each season in stolen bases, and speed was a big part of our game. But so far this season, the team’s stolen bases are down and not where we expected. Currently, the Mets have 5 stolen bases and have been caught 4 times after 12 games. When you compare [...]

Thank You NY Post… Gooden’s Autograph Stays!
The NY Post is reporting that what began early yesterday morning after George Willis of the NY Post outed the Mets for insulting our beloved Doctor K, has ended in a complete about-face by the New York Mets. It all started when George Willis’ column in yesterday’s Post reported that the Mets planned to erase Dwight Gooden’s autograph from a wall at Citi Field — and it induced a public outcry that forced the team [...]

A Change Needs To Happen And Soon!
I know that we’re only 12 games into the season. I know that today’s date is April 21, 2009 and “it’s only April.” I know that there are 150 games left to play before the season ends on Sunday, October 4, 2009 against the Houston Astros at Citi Field. I also know so far this season the Mets have not been able to hit with runners in scoring position. In Sunday’s game against the Brewers [...]

Mets Sign Wily Mo Pena To Minor League Deal
The NY Post has confirmed that the Mets signed veteran outfielder Wily Mo Pena to a minor-league deal today and assigned him to extended spring training. Pena, 27, will report to Triple-A Buffalo after that. The right-hand hitting Pena, originally signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent in 1998, had refused a minor-league assignment from the Nationals last month and was granted his unconditional release. Pena hit just .205 in 64 games for Washington [...]

Mets Notes – Gooden Aftermath, 100 LOB? Mets Not The Worst
The Mets might have gotten the day off today, but the Mets blogosphere keeps churning. On top of the swell of angst building up over the Dwight Gooden autograph debacle, it’s good to see that most bloggers including Matt Cerrone, agree with our point of view this morning and not only keep the autograph, but even add to it as was written here this morning. Gooden may have been onto something, and it would have been cool [...]

Mets Want To Erase Doc Gooden
The Mets simply do not get it. After all the uproar in the media about how Citi Field seems more like a fitting tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers as opposed to the New York Mets, the front office had an opportunity to alleviate some of those concerns and chose not to. George Willis of the NY Post explains: WHEN Dwight “Doc” Gooden attended the Mets’ Opening Day ceremonies at Citi Field last week, he stopped [...]
