It’s Time to Shea Goodbye to Jerry

So I spent the weekend away, away from the internet and for the most part away from the Mets outside of highlights on the MLB Network in the morning. Oh, by the way. Personal endorsement. If you have the option to watch MLB Network’s Quick Pitch or MLB Tonight instead of Sportscenter/Baseball Tonight. Do yourself a favor and flip to the MLB Network. Their coverage of the sport far surpasses any agenda ESPN seems to [...]

Omar Flying To Atlanta: Is It Hammer Time For Jerry Manuel?

According to a tweet via David Lennon of Newsday, Omar Minaya will be making an unscheduled flight with the team to Atlanta for their series with the Braves, although the decision was not made during today’s game. I may be reading too much into this, but Jerry Manuel has been on the proverbial hot seat of late, and the team has lacked the life and enthusiasm that seemed so prevalent only two weeks ago when the [...]

Mets Notes: Calero Released, Plan For Mejia, Iggy Update

The Mets have released Kiko Calero, tweets David Lennon of Newsday. The Mets had signed Calero to a minor league deal back in March, but health was a big concern for the 35-year-old who failed to make the team this spring. Calero posted a 1.95 ERA in 67 relief appearances for the Marlins in 2009, but in ten appearances for the Bisons, he pitched 17 innings and recorded a 10.59 ERA. So much for that theory… * * * [...]

Ollie Plays For Ollie!

In the you knew it was coming department the Mets have taken Oliver Perez out of the starting rotation today.  As of right now there is no announcement on who will be taking his spot in the rotation.  Unfortunately Oliver Perez is currently staying on the active roster as he will be placed in the bullpen. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork posted the following on his twitter account: “Ollie says Takahashi pitching better, although Jerry hasn’t [...]

Mets Fall Below .500, Lose 7-5 To Marlins

Mets drop game three of the series to the Marlins 7-5. Mets drop to one game below .500, lose their fourth straight game, and lost their first five road series series this season. Game Summary John Maine did not continue his stream of quality starts as the first twelve pitches he threw in the game were all balls and walked the bases loaded with no outs. He would later give up three runs in just [...]

Rays Shed Burrell & His $9MM Salary, Would Mets Ever Be So Bold?

According to this post on Twitter from the Tampa Tribune, the Tampa Bay Rays have designated outfielder Pat Burrell for assignment to make room for Hank Blalock. Burrell was hitting just .202/.292/.333 this year and had fallen out of favor with the organization and the fans. But what is most important to note is that the Rays, a low market revenue team, also bit the bullet on the remaining $9 million dollars of Pat Burell’s salary. Could you [...]

Oswalt Is Not An Option, But What About Pedro?

In a post to his blog, Mike Puma of the NY Post writes that Mets fans shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for the team to trade for Houston Astros ace, Roy Oswalt. Roy Oswalt’s name is out there as a potential reinforcement for a team in need of pitching help, but don’t expect the Mets to inquire. Oswalt, the Astros right-hander, recently said he’s willing to waive his no-trade clause if Houston wants to deal him. [...]

R.A. Dickey Has Another Solid Start And Could Replace Perez

On Monday, May 10, I wrote a post in which I said that minor leaguers Chris Carter and R.A. Dickey could be ripe for a promotion and days away from joining the Mets. First baseman Chris Carter was promoted the very next day and paid immediate dividends by lining an RBI double later that night. Meanwhile, knuckleballer R.A. Dickey continues to shine, and while Oliver Perez had another brutal start for the Mets allowing seven [...]
