3 Up & 3 Down: Mets Served Up Some Bad Home Cooking Edition
Usually, it isn’t until after the All Star break, when we need to combine series to come up with 3 Ups and 3 Downs. This week was an exception with the Mets winning 2 out of 6 games against the Chicago White Sox & the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unless the Met offense wakes up real soon, we’re going to be in for a long season. Sorry to say, a first baseman batting .190 in the middle [...]

Mets Minors Report 5/13: Wheeler Knocking On Flushing’s Door, McHugh Solid, Mazzoni Throwing Gas
Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas dropped Albuquerque, 4-3. Binghamton split a double header with Harrisburg, 3-1 and 9-3. St. Lucie had an off day. Savannah lost to Rome, 4-1. Prospect Pipeline Wheeler Watch: Joe D. thinks the timing is right, everyone likes what they see (including Wally Backman — see below), and the Mets could us a jolt…one more solid start and Zack Wheeler may be packing his bags for Queens. What’s that? You have nothing [...]

Wheeler To Flushing: The Timing Feels Right…
How many of you are sitting at home tonight, wondering and asking yourselves how long it will be until we finally see Zack Wheeler wearing that uniform and hurling 98 mph fastballs from the mound at Citi Field? The question is not an easy one to answer and in fact it’s a perfect paradox by virtue of the logical arguments one can make for either side. It’s a conundrum, that much is true, but it’s [...]

Mets Lose Third Straight In 3-2 Loss To Bucs
PRETTY IN PINK? The Mets were beaten by the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 3-2 this afternoon in front of a nicely packed Mother’s Day crowd at Citi Field. Matt Harvey started and while he pitched good enough to win, he wasn’t at his best and he seemed to rely mostly on a variety of breaking balls and off-speed stuff rather than his usual 95-98 mph fastball. He tossed seven innings and allowed two earned runs [...]

McHugh Cruises Through Seven In 4-3 Vegas Victory
Las Vegas 4, Albuquerque 3 Despite a near-bullpen meltdown, the Las Vegas 51s were able to avert any further damage and best Albuquerque by a final score of 4-3. Collin McHugh got the nod for the 51s and had himself his second-straight spectacular outing. McHugh went seven frames allowing just one run on six hits while walking two and striking out five. The 25-year old righty was putting up goose eggs up until the sixth [...]

Mazzoni Solid On Both Sides Of The Ball In B-Mets 9-3 Victory
Binghamton 9, Harrisburg 3 An ominous gray sky and a persistent drizzle dampened my spirits as I started an excursion to Binghamton’s NYSEG Stadium for the second consecutive day. Saturday’s sojourn was for naught, nearly four hours driving in the car and no baseball. The prospects of a double washout loomed. Halfway to Binghamton, the clouds almost evaporated in the sky giving way to sunshine, blue skies and baseball. I couldn’t help but think that [...]

Cohoon Effective, But B-Mets Struggle Offensively In 3-1 Loss
Harrisburg 3, Binghamton 1 Mark Cohoon didn’t have his best stuff yet turned in a gritty performance which was good enough to win, but good fortune simply didn’t come his way. Cohoon is a thinking pitcher who maximizes his stuff to out smart opposing hitters. Pitch location is a huge part of the winning Cohoon pitching formula, but the B-Met lefty had difficulty spotting his pitches early in the contest. Even so, Cohoon carried [...]

Sand Gnats Commit Four Errors En Route To 4-1 Loss
Rome 4, Savannah 1 The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,348 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Rome won the game 4-1 to even the series at 2-2. The Sand Gnats were held to just three hits while committing four errors, effectively giving them more errors than hits on the afternoon. In the third inning, Rome scored when shortstop [...]

Matt Harvey Has All Star Game On His Mind
We’ve all heard and read about how much winning means to Matt Harvey. On MMO alone I believe I counted at least two posts entitled “All Matt Harvey Cares About Is Winning.” On MetsBlog you’ll find three times as many such posts. Harvey reminds us all of how much he wants to win every five days. He’s the textbook definition of a fierce competitor. But thanks to Steve Serby of the New York Post, we [...]

Francisco Headed To Hospital For Special Surgery With Elbow Pain
Frank Francisco is experiencing elbow pain after his latest outing with Single-A St. Lucie, and will head to New York to visit with team doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery, according to Terry Collins. Francisco hasn’t pitched since he last appeared in an inning of relief for Single-A St. Lucie. He hasn’t allowed a run five innings over five relief appearances with them. yesterday, Adam Rubin reported that Francisco would head to Double-A Binghamton to continue his [...]
