Mets Notes: Murphy Bats Third, Church Out Again

Daniel Murphy will hit third and start in left field tonight against the Braves. Fernando Tatis will again start at first base for the injured Carlos Delgado. If Delgado ends up on the DL, look for Murphy to begin getting playing time at first base. Manuel said the team will evaluate Delgado on Friday and will determine if he needs to be put on the disabled list.  While a guest on WFAN, Manuel said he wasn’t very encouraged about [...]

5/12 Minor League Report! GEE, NIEUWENHUIS!

Buffalo 4, Gwinnett 3 in 11 innings Tim McNab picked up a cheap win (it’s the theme of the night), giving up a pair in the top of the 11th, (1 earned, due to a Fernando Martinez error), only to see the Bisons score 3 in the bottom half of the inning for the win. Dillon Gee started the game and was excellent for the 2nd time in his last 3 starts (7 ip, 6 [...]

Johan, Intensity and Non Support

You can’t win ‘em all, it has been said, but last night’s defeat did sting a tad. For one, the Mets continue to squander sterling Johan Santana performances. He should hire a lawyer and sue the hitters for non-support. Why do the bats take a respite every time the fiery lefty storms the hill? The numbers don’t lie: 2.14 runs per game, worse for a starter (with 6 or more starts) this year. Can’t the [...]

Dan Murphy Is Hitting.200 In May

Last night, I was feeling a little masochistic and I decided that a self imposed torture of listening to WFAN after the game would do the trick. It did. I did manage however to hear an interesting call about Dan Murphy that managed to find a way to sneak in between all the ”Jerry Manuel sucks” calls, and the “this team has no grit” calls. The caller argued that the fascination with Dan Murphy is growing old, and that the [...]

Nick Evans Is Having A Terrible Season

Nick Evans has been called the first baseman of the future for the New York Mets and has been considered the heir apparent to Carlos Delgado. The Mets may have to rethink all of that in light of the tremendous struggles Evans is experiencing at AAA – Buffalo. In 75 at-bats for the Bisons, Evans is batting an abysmal .093 with just 7 hits this season. Three of those hits are homeruns, but that’s no [...]

What’s Next For Ollie?…Part 2

Last week I wrote about Oliver Perez and the decision of Omar Minaya and the Mets to send him into the bullpen.  The next day the Mets decided to put Ollie on the disabled list (DL).  The reason provided by the Mets was that after an MRI it was determined that Ollie was suffering patella tendinitis in his right leg.  Ollie stated after his last bad start that the knee was bothering him all season, [...]

Shock, Outrage and Frustration

Jerry Manuel was asked a great question during the post game presser. “Will your team come to regret these Johan Santana losses in September?” “There will probably come a time,” Mets manager Jerry Manuel said. “There will probably come a point where you’ll think, ‘Wow, we missed a lot of opportunities with Johan.’” Ya think??? Johan Santana deserves better than this. He deserved a better effort from his teammates and a better effort from his [...]

I Got Two Big Problems With This Loss

1. Why did he take out Johan Santana when he was the only pitcher best equipped to get out of that inning? I don’t care if Johan Santana had already thrown over 100 pitches. The guy is a warrior and wanted to stay in the game. Plus even if he was a little winded, 80% of Johan Santana is infinitely better than 100% of any other pitcher on the Mets active roster. Listening to Johan [...]

Look! Shea Stadium Bases, Home Plate, Pitchers Mound

Check out these great tributes to Shea Stadium that are located in the parking lot of Citi Field. These gorgeous plaques mark the spots of first base, second base, third base, home plate and the pitchers mound at Shea Stadium. Nice job by the Wilpons for preserving a little bit of our former and much beloved home. Keith Hernandez should sign this in gold! Let’s get Fonzie to sign this one! We might have to [...]
