Watch Jenrry Mejia And Wilmer Flores In Futures Game Today
If any of you want to catch a glimpse of two of the Mets brightest prospects, I urge you to tune in to ESPN 2 this afternoon at 2:00 PM EST and watch the Futures Game. The New York Mets will have two players participating; pitcher Jenrry Mejia and shortstop Wilmer Flores. Mejia was 4-1 with a 1.97 ERA for St. Lucie, and is 0-3 with a 3.74 ERA since being promoted to Binghamton. Flores is [...]

Francoeur and Santana Fuel 4-0 Win Over The Reds
After being shutout by the Reds on Friday, the Mets returned the favor tonight and shut the Reds out 4-0 on the strength of a solid performance by Johan Santana and some clutch hitting by Jeff Francoeur!. The Mets got on the board in the first inning when our new rightfielder Jeff Francoeur singled with the bases loaded to plate Angel Pagan and Luis Castillo and put the Mets up 2-0. I had hoped before the game that [...]

In Defense Of Jeff Francoeur
It’s amazing how wide ranging the opinions have been on the trade that sent Ryan Church to Atlanta for Jeff Francoeur on Friday. It looks likes this trade has the fan base far more divided than the Lastings Milledge trade, with both sides either loving it or hating it. I took a spin around a few Braves sites, just to see what they were saying. Here is some of what I found: Another stupid trade. Frenchy [...]

Evans Sent Down, Francoeur Batting Fifth
The Mets made a couple of moves today. First, they claimed veteran infielder Angel Berroa off waivers from the Yankees and assigned him to AAA Buffalo. Berroa, the 2003 AL Rookie of the Year, had been designated for assignment by the Yankees on June 24 after hitting just .136 with one double and one RBI in 21 games this season. Also, the Mets assigned Nick Evans to Buffalo this afternoon to create roster space for Jeff Francoeur. Speaking [...]

7/11 Minor League Report! CARSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buffalo 2, Scranton 1 Coming off a 5 hit complete game shutout, Jon Niese wasn’t on top of his game tonight, giving up a run while scattering 8 hits (3 in the first, when he escaped a bases loaded one out jam without giving up a run). Over his last 7 starts, Niese is 4-1 with a 1.09 era, spanning 49.1 innings, he’s allowed 38 hits, while walking 11 and striking out 44. Nick Evans’ [...]

Meet The Newest Met: Jeff Francoeur
As you’re all well aware, Jeff Francoeur will be the Mets new everyday rightfielder. The reaction on this site and all over the blogosphere has been quite vocal, to say the least. I have noticed a share of fans panning the deal, despite the fact that Francoeur has yet to play his first game in a Mets uniform. I will not attempt to compare Ryan Church to Francoeur in this post. I will leave that [...]

Please Give Me 10 Minutes in the Dugout!
JMAN’s post-game last night–not so good. Very Randolph-esque now. Lots of mumblin’, lots of hoping, lots of “it’s not so good; we have to try to turn it around” crap! Fans, I’m thinkin’ it’s high time for a little fire and brimstone. Whadda ya say? No one would seriously argue that a bit of the rant and rave would make matters worse, right? Here’s an appeal to the Wilpons or Minaya: Fly me to Queens [...]

Mets Trade Church For Jeff Francoeur
Moments ago in a press conference, Mets general manager Omar Minaya announced that they have traded rightfielder Ryan Church to the Atlanta Braves for rightfielder Jeff Francoeur. It was no secret that Church was on the outs as I have frequently pointed out this season, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise to readers of this blog. It’s interesting to note that Francoeur was in the same kind of situation in Atlanta, and was [...]

Mets Move Church, But Is This What Fans Were Praying For?
Quick and to the point: I don’t understand the trade. We didn’t gain anything better than what we gave away. The Braves may have needed a center fielder, which Church can be, but the Mets certainly didn’t need a right fielder, which Church was. As Gary Cohen put it, “A one-on-one deal, an outfielder for an outfielder, in the same division …” If you ask me, both organizations got rid of guys their managers didn’t like. This [...]
