The Mets Ain’t Half Bad, But They Ain’t Half Good Either
Even though the All Star Break doesn’t reach us for another week, the official halfway point of the season (81 games) came yesterday after the Mets 2-0 loss to the Phillies. The New York Mets find themselves four games behind the division leading (and Mets-fan hated) Philadelphia Phillies. The “official” first half ended with a record of 39-42, tied with the Atlanta Braves for third place in the NL East. All this despite one injury [...]

Fantasy Focus: Mets Positional Analysis – Part I: The Good!
It’s been a brutal 4th of July weekend getting swept by the hated Phillies. The Mets now sit below .500 for the season. Clearly the team needs some help – either from the return of our injured stars or via trade – although it appears that the front office is still prudently waiting for the right opportunity and price. Baseball analysts (notably ESPN) have been saying that it is a buyers market (for trades) this [...]

7/5 Minor League Report! NIESE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buffalo 5, Rochester 9, Game 1 Tobi Stoner’s had 4 starts in AAA since posting a 2.68 era in AA, and of them, 2 have been quality, and only one has been really good. Today, he had an awful outing, getting raked around for 8 hits and 6 runs in 5.2 innings for his second loss. Jon Switzer came in with 2 on in the 6th inning, and allowed both runners to score, giving Stoner [...]

Midseason Recap: Does The Future Look Bright?
Including today’s game with the Phillies, the Mets have now played 81 games. They’ve reached the midway point of the season battered and bruised, but still breathing. Their record stands at 39-42, leaving them four games behind first place Philadelphia. Somehow, they’ve managed to stay competitive in the standings while occasionally looking pathetic on the field. What does the Magic 8-ball have in store for the second half? Before we shake it up for the [...]

Tony B At It Again, Cora Frustrated, Ollie’s Follies
It looks like Mets assistant GM, Tony Bernazard is back to his back-stabbing ways, and this time it is Jerry Manuel who is lining up to be his next victim. Bill Madden of the Daily News writes, Nevertheless, there’s still no getting around the fact the Mets are presently a depleted mess, plagued not only by this unfathomable rash of injuries to their most important players, but by the same inner turmoil that eventually led to Willie [...]

Oliver Perez Set To Return On Wednesday
According to espn.com, Oliver Perez is set to return to the Mets to make a start on Wednesday night against the Dodgers at Citi Field. Although he claims to be healthy, his latest effort on the mound seems to suggest that not much has changed since we last saw him in New York. He continues to be the master of the conga line, allowing opposing hitters to walk freely around the bases. He threw 92 [...]

Cutting Darren O’Day Was A Costly Mistake
You may remember that back on April 19th, the Mets purchased the contract of pitcher Nelson Figueroa from Buffalo to make a start against the Milwaukee Brewers. Figgy pitched a decent game allowing just three runs, but the Mets lost 4-2. Immediately after the game, the Mets designated Figueroa for assignment and came close to losing him as Figueroa refused the assignment and opted to test the free agent waters. Nothing happened for Figgy so [...]
