Mets fans, an all-new episode is here!

This week Mike and I discuss the announcement of David Peterson making the starting rotation, Tim Locastro makes the club and we discuss the state of the Mets bench, when will Brett Baty become the Mets starting third baseman this season, we give our pre Opening Day team predictions, and much more!

Could the decision to start veteran Eduardo Escobar over Baty at third base to start the season come back to haunt the Mets? For Mike, Baty’s offensive ceiling and strong spring should have made it an easy choice for the Mets:

“The fact that the Mets decided to send Baty down and stay with Eduardo Escobar as the starter at third base limits their offensive ceiling, and more importantly limits their power…Baty is the better offensive player overall and the Mets made a mistake there. Not only is he the better player, but it’s a bad decision to continue to let this competition linger into the regular season. For me, that’s a big deal because it would have said a lot for Baty from the Mets to say ‘you’re the starting third baseman on Opening Day’, and considering that he’s going to end up there rather than later anyway, he had a strong spring training at the plate and showed defensively that he’s improved and will get to a point where he’s at least going to be able to handle it at as well as Escobar at the very least. This would have also helped Escobar get into the role of a bench player quicker when you consider that’s where he will ultimately be at some point this year.”
